Be Bold. Be Extrême. Be Tom Ford!

June 12, 2018

Tom Ford has been unrelenting in changing up its makeup offerings lately!  First the brand redefined its eye colour offering by breaking up several of its well-loved eye colour quads and offering them as singles in an updated formula; and now it is going a step further by pushing out an entire wardrobe of never-before-seen colours dripping in shimmers and foil.  Next, the brand has reimagined one of my personal favourite patent finish lip colour as a new lip lacquer, pushing it to the maximum boundaries in terms of colours and finishes.  This SS2018, Tom Ford heralds in the future of makeup with the Tom Ford Extrême Collection!

Tom Ford Extreme Collection

The Tom Ford Extrême Collection was released earlier this year in the US, but has now just been launched in Singapore.  The collection that we have here consists of 2 product lines – the Tom Ford Shadow Extrême, and Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Extrême .  I have full swatches for you today, because this collection is only available exclusively on Sephora.sg [unaffiliated link], so hopefully this post will be helpful!

Tom Ford Shadow Extreme

The new Tom Ford Shadow Extrême break from the conventional mahogany and gold that is signature of the brand, and come in sleek highly reflective silver polished metal casings.  The opening mechanism is similar to the Private Shadows, the cover is held firmly in place by clasping to the signature plate that swings forward.  The entirety has a very futuristic feel that I love, but it is the contents within that makes my heart flutter.  With 20 brand new shades, all ultra-pigmented in 2 finishes – micronized glitter and foil.  Here are the swatches in the same order as the shades presented above:

Most of the shades have really amazing pigmentation and colour-payoff, the only exception is the blue TFX9 which reminded me of Night Sky Cream and Powder Eye Color from Holiday 2015 [see here] that had the same problem.  The glitter foil shades are a mixed bag, some of them had a sheer base (e.g. TFX16, TFX18, and TFX20) whilst others had better opacity.  This is not a big problem because they are anyway meant to be patted over a base shade, but the glitters are much chunkier than anything Tom Ford has ever released in the past and they do fallout, so I suggest using a fixing base for the glitters to adhere properly.

Tom Ford Shadow & Lip Lacquer Extreme

The 2nd part of the collection consists of the brand new Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Extrême.  These are billed as lip glosses, but they dry down quickly and then are virtually bullet proof.  Consistent with the rest of the collection, these Lip Lacquer Extrêmes come in a shiny silver tube with the bottom 1cm left clear so you can quickly see-through the colour of the shade contained within.  The top twists up to reveal a standard doe-foot applicator which allows the product to be spread out evenly and efficiently, and also gets around the contours of the lips easily.  There are 8 shades and here are the swatches:

All of the shades have a micro-fine shimmer to them, and thankfully they are imperceptible on my lips.  Some of the shades have a duo-chrome cast to them (e.g. Loveless, Loveshock, Panty Pink) which is unusual and executed immaculately.  They are all edgy, and some are more statement-making than others, all equally bold and unconventional.  One way to tone them down for everyday wear is to dab just a tiny bit on the center of the lips and then spread it out using a finger or brush for a less intense finish.

Tom Ford Extreme Collection makeup look

For this makeup look, I applied Shadow Extreme TFX4 all over my eyelids, followed by a pat of TFX15 in the middle and TFX20 in the inner corner.  On the lips I’m wearing Lip Lacquer Extreme Torch sheered out with a finger.  Interestingly the duo chrome nature of the shade pulled it almost pink/red when sheered out rather than orange when fully opaque.

Tom Ford Extrême Collection is limited edition and available exclusive on Sephora.sg now.  Will you be picking anything up?
