The Body Shop Black Musk

March 4, 2016

Happy Friday!  What exciting plans do you have in store for the weekend?  I hope it’s good…  I’ve been reminded several times this past couple of weeks how ephemeral life is, and we really need to treasure the time we have and spend it wisely.  Morbid I know, so let’s turn to happier things!

I was quite excited to receive the latest fragrance release from The Body Shop – Black Musk last week.  It reminded me of my very first encounter with fragrances in my teenage years… that was in a The Body Shop store and I remembered the very first bottle I picked up was their Musk scent.  Of course, as a blooming teen, that was not the scent for me, and I promptly wrinkled my nose and put that bottle back on its shelf.  Fast forward to a couple of years ago, The Body Shop released Red Musk, and I immediately fell in love with it.  It was evident to me then that The Body Shop has come a long way with its fragrance offerings, and clearly I had grown to a stage in life where I can better appreciate musks.

The Body Shop Black Musk

The Body Shop Black Musk is described as the darkest and most sensual of their musk fragrances, featuring an entirely cruelty-free musk.  It starts out punchy, with the tart spiciness of pink pepper and juiciness of bambinella pear.  This gives way to sexy musk, surrounded by the fragrant bergamot and dark spicy liquorice.  The intense aroma of heliotrope darkens the brew along with ylang-ylang.  Black vanilla and patchouli further emphasise the exoticism of this fragrance.

It all sounds quite overwhelming, but in reality it is not all that pungent.  Rather, Black Musk feels to me like blackberries and ice cream.  Which is probably not the best analogy, but there is definitely something sweet and universally-appealing in the mix.  The Eau de Parfum comes in a spray bottle so it is easy to immerse yourself with it, whilst the Perfume Oil comes with an applicator rod that allows you to dab it on your pressure points.  The Body Shop Black Musk Eau de Parfum has moderate sillage and lasts about 4-5 hours on me before fading off.  The Perfume Oil stays close to the skin throughout, and since I apply very little it only lasts a short though lovely while.
