Shu Uemura is all grown up at last!! After years of giving us kawaii holiday collections featuring furry Shuppette and Mario bros, and kitschy graphics from famed artists; Shu Uemura strikes out on a gourmet note this Holiday 2018 with La Maison du Chocolat! The collection puts a new spin to wearable art as each piece is perfectly wearable on a daily basis, and are scented (subtly and elegantly) to resemble the finest chocolates.
As always, Shu Uemura’s Holiday 2018 collection features an extensive 22-piece wardrobe that dresses the eyes, lips, and even takes care of the skin. Everything is packaged in a rich chocolate brown bearing the Shu Uemura x La Maison du Chocolat label. I have 1 of the eye palettes and 3 matte lipsticks to show you today.
Shu Uemura Ganache & Praline Eye Palette is packaged like a bar of artisanal chocolate, and available in 2 variations, the one featured here today is Dark Cacao. As its name implies, it is a brown-themed palette with a decadent mix of gold and complementary purple thrown in for good measure. Here are the swatches:
All of the shades are soft and finely milled, all of them are equally well pigmented. I did not notice any differences in quality across all 8 shades. There is a good variety of matte and satins, none filled with obvious chunky glitters that are prone to fallout. Dark Cacao is of a high quality consistent of Shu Uemura, and a lovely one to have on hand for everyday wear. I’ve had some friends ask me if this palette was scented, but I could not pick up any noticeable scent myself.
Here is a sample eye look that I created using Dark Cacao. I started with the bottom right shade across my lid, starting from the lash line and building upwards. Thereafter I used the medium satin mauve from the top row 2nd left on my inner lid, and darkened the outer corner with the dark brown from top left corner. Lastly, I dabbed some of the shimmery lavender from bottom left to the center of my lid, lined the lower lash line with dark brown and finished with some gold in the inner corner.
I will show you the final look in a while, but first let me show you the 3 Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte lipsticks that I have.
There are actually 6 Supreme Matte lipsticks and 4 Rouge Unlimited classic lipsticks in this La Maison du Chocolat collection. Both formulas have been reviewed here and here respectively so I will not dwell at length today. Instead, the 3 shades that I have are:
What is really interesting to note is that these lipsticks are named like the finest chocolates imaginable, and they also smell they way those chocolates would! Imagine dabbling the nutty flavours of Hazelnut Ganache on your lips, or the indulgent sweetness of Raspberry Syrup or the gourmand Deep Cranberry. Heavenly!
Here is a makeup look featuring a lighter composition on the eyes using Ganache & Praline Eye Palette in Dark Cacao, and a bolder counterpoint on the lips featuring Hazelnut Ganache.
And another warmer look featuring the eye look shown earlier in this post, and Raspberry Syrup on my lips.
The Shu Uemura x La Maison du Chocolat collection is out in stores now and limited in quantity. So be sure to check it out before they disappear!
