Rouge Hermès Satin Lipsticks – Rose Ombré & Rose Pommette

December 31, 2020

On this last day of 2020, I had planned to recap my year… but the level of introspection requires a certain mood and time that I don’t yet have.  So instead, I thought I would dedicate the space to my most decadent purchase of the year – Rouge Hermès.

Rouge Hermes Satin Lipstick Rose Ombre & Rose Pommette

Rouge Hermès seemed like yet another luxury brand trying to monetise its prestige on younger and less affluent consumers.  In a year when mask wearing made lipsticks non-essential, it seemed like a real splurge to pay down SGD111 for another tube that I don’t need.  However, I was curious and these color-blocked tubes designed by Pierre Hardy are so chic that I finally took the plunge and ordered 2 of the limited edition satin lipsticks.

The lipsticks come in a lacquered tube that Hermès terms as objects, and are indeed little works of sculptural art.  Topped with a golden emblem of the house, each of the limited edition objects have a different colour style, and are different from the regular permanent members of the line.  Nonetheless, they are refillable, so you can keep on enjoying them long after the lipstick contained within is finished.  Each Rouge Hermès comes in a canvas pouch and its own little orange box.

I chose the satin formula because I hardly ever wear matte lipsticks, and quite frankly, I was blown away at first swipe.  The lipsticks are the best I have ever tried – they feel like silk upon application, and are opaque with a single swipe.  Both the shades I have – Rose Pommette and Rose Ombré were impressively long-lasting, staying on all day unless removed.  I have even worn them under a mask, and there was no transfer!

Rouge Hermès Satin Lipsticks Rose Pommette & Rose Ombré are part of a trio of limited edition shades that are from the rose colour family.  Rose Pommette is a warm-toned bright pink that helps to brighten the complexion, and Rose Ombré is a light-medium rosewood that looks natural on me without being too sombre.  Here is a picture of how Rose Pommette looks on me:

At SGD111 a pop, I would not recommend anyone to run out and grab one of these Rouge Hermès lipsticks for yourself.  However, we’ve had a terribly trying year, perhaps a small object of desire might just be the thing we need.  Instead of another eyeshadow palette that is unlikely to be used much in the months ahead, a swipe of decadence in the privacy of our own homes could be a welcome change.  If you are so inclined, you can shop from the safety of your home via Hermes.com.

I pray that 2021 will bring us respite from the coronavirus, and return us the peace of mind and good health that we all deserve!  Sending you all my love, from Singapore.
