Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip

March 11, 2018

It seems like the makeup world is all about new bases and lipsticks lately… or at least the things that have made their way to my desk.  Not that I don’t like the seasonal color collections that are in stores, I just don’t have the bandwidth to venture beyond what is already on my plate.  And there is plenty!  So, much as I try to inject some variety in the blog posts, a certain rhythm seems to be emerging.  Today, I will be showing you Pixi’s latest makeup offering – the MatteLast Liquid Lip!

Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip

Pixi is an amazingly affordable brand that first originated from the UK, and has since garnered a worldwide cult-like following for its wide variety of good quality skincare and makeup.  The brand focuses on easy-to-use products that aim to bring out the natural beauty in all of us.  I’ve only dabbled with a few items so far, but everything I’ve tried has far surpassed my expectations!

The new MatteLast Liquid Lip is a super-pigmented, long-lasting liquid lipstick.  The tube is clear-acrylic which allows you to see at a glance the color that you are picking up.  The applicator is really unique and one of the best I’ve ever used.  It is more pointed at the tip and thinner at the sides than most other liquid lip applicators in the market, and allows for precise application around the corners of the lips and outline.  It picks up enough product for even the thickest or widest set of lips without having to re-dip, and allows for a smooth, even application with a single stroke.

There are 6 shades in the range, and I have 5 to show you today.  All the shades are universally wearable, and equally pigmented and long-lasting.

All of the Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lips dry down to a completely matte finish within a minute of application.  As my lips naturally have quite a bit of lines, matte lipsticks in general are not as flattering; and from experience, the lighter shades tend to emphasize the lines more.  Applying lip balm beforehand would help reduce the appearance of lines greatly.  Given the intensity of the pigmentation, I found it best to apply the MatteLast Liquid Lip to the center of my lips, and then blend out using a separate lip brush or finger to create a more diffused edge as you can see in the lip swatches for Really Rose and Evening Rose above.  The applicator itself creates a very defined outline which is great for the corners.

What is truly amazing is that these Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lips last all-day on me!  Lots of other liquid lipsticks are long-lasting, but these Pixis take the cake.  There is some time to blend before it sets, but once it sets it is completely bulletproof, save for makeup removers.  The formula does include kaolin though, which despite the remedying effects of rose seed oil, tends to dry out my lips.  It also has a strong scent which takes some getting used to, though it does not linger long after application.

Pixi is easily accessible internationally via Sephora stores and their UK website ships internationally for a flat fee (or free for orders above GBP35).  A little bird tells me they will be opening up a flagship boutique in Singapore soon… so stay tuned!
