Ombres Lamees de Chanel for Holiday 2016…Swatches, Review & a GIVEAWAY!!

November 19, 2016

This Holiday 2016, I find myself becoming extremely singular in my tastes, and at the risk of turning rather exclusively Chanel, I would still like to show you this wondrous creation before it sells out completely.

Chanel Ombres Lamees for Holiday 2016

It has become somewhat of a tradition for Chanel to release an intricately designed piece for Christmas every year, and this year is no exception.  The Ombres Lamees de Chanel is a limited edition collectors’ item that is sold exclusively at Chanel boutiques and select counters.  Ombres Lamees is an ultra-luxe eyeshadow palette featuring gradated bands of browns and golds, woven together with intricate designs insired by silk ribbons, tweed, and other beautiful materials that are dear to the House of Chanel.

Chanel Ombres Lamees for Holiday 2016

For the very first time, a Chanel eyeshadow palette comes packaged in an exclusive case and accompanied by 2 miniature brushes.  I am so happy to see the brushes in contrast to the usual sponge-tipped applicators, and though these feel synthetic to me, their sizes and shapes are perfect for picking up the individual strips of eyeshadow and blending them out on the lids.

If you are able to look past the gorgeous design, you will notice that the palette is divided roughly into 6 strips of colors.  Some of these have a golden overspray which wears off at first sweep of the brush to reveal the actual colours beneath… as you can see from the swatches below.

Chanel Ombres Lamees for Holiday 2016

The shades, as they are presented from top to bottom of the palette are:

The texture of all the shades is meltingly soft, and easy to blend.  Pigmentation is top notch, not as intense as the Architectonic Palette [reviewed here], but pretty much as good as it gets.  Here is an eye look to give you an idea of how wearable this palette is:

Chanel Ombres Lamees for Holiday 2016

I started by dusting the top pale golden taupe all over my lid as a base, followed by the medium-dark brown on the outer half of my lid.  Next, I blended some  the dark plummy brown to my outer corner and lined my lower lash line.  Finished by adding a dash of gold to the inner corner, and also lightly pressed some gold to the center of my lid.

Ombres Lamees de Chanel makeup look

As I said at the beginning of this post, I know I have been advocating quite a bit of Chanel this year, and whilst there may have been some hits and misses, I have always tried to understand why a product was created and to what purpose it as designed for, and to give as fair a review as I possibly can.  And so to that end, I’d like to extend the opportunity for 1 of my followers to personally experience and hopefully share in my love for the brand.  I’ve actually been thinking long and hard about holding a giveaway to thank you for your friendship and constant support.  It has been somewhat of a tumultuous year for me, and I also wanted to celebrate my 20k milestone on my Instagram.  Instead of spending money on some other Christmas palette that I don’t really feel very strongly about, just for the sake of owning and adding to my already overwhelming blog pipeline; I decided to spend the money on a more worthwhile purpose and buy an extra Ombres Lamees de Chanel for YOU!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Enter in the Rafflecopter widget above, do as much or as little as you’d like.  This giveaway is open internationally, but only my blog subscribers are eligible and I really would like to hear how the year has been for you so please leave me a comment below.  I will pick a winner on 1 December and drop an email to the lucky person, and hopefully the gift will arrive just in time for Christmas!  Good luck!!

xo Linda

I planned my best friend’s wedding, which was completely stressful but fun at the same time. I executed it from start to finish, including design. I guess this was a personal test for me whether I could go into the design field or not, as I also designed a couple other weddings and rooms for people. I think it’s a sign I should switch careers, but I’m absolutely terrified of doing this. It’s a huge leap!

To be honest the most memorable moments weren’t the happy ones and are too personal to talk about. My year had a lot of ups and downs.

  3. Starla says:

Wow, such a beautiful product. To be honest 2016 has been the worst year of my life. My precious 80 year old Nana passed away May 2nd. She was my entire world so I am still trying to make it through this awful but reality of life! Hope your year has been amazing! xo

2016 is a great year for me. There are some sad moments but there’s always good in every situation. Me and hubby acquire our first property as a couple and it feels good because we see the fruits of our labour. We also travel 4 times this year, because we feel alive when we travel! I hope for a better new year for us, for our family and for everyone!

In 2016, I have finally realized my dreams to have my own label! Plan has been ongoing over the past years due my hectic schedules, family commitments and poor health. Online business is so competitive and with many constraints. There’s many times where I felt like giving up but I’m thankful that I’ve a supportive and understanding hubby. His encouragement has given me the little boost. Glad that I didn’t give up and my dream has finally come true.

I’m a collector of exclusive lovely cosmetics. Hope this Christmas, I will receive this Ombres Lamees de Chanel to celebrate the victories of my efforts! 🙂

  10. Kong Meifong says:

Hi Linda , the most memorable part of 2016 that happened to me was to witness and go thru with both my kids graduating and they will be advancing to higher levels next year which requires a lot of preparations for new school term . My eldest son just took his PSLE results and that moment was really heart stopping for me . Now that it was finally over , now is another stage of secondary school selection and waiting for results . Can’t wait for our vacation coming this Christmas 🎄

I left a job. It wasn’t something that I had planned or at least the timing is way off but ultimately I think it will be for the best.

  17. Kiki says:

Hello Linda. I love your blog, been following for years. Your topic struck a chord with me that I felt compelled to write. This year has been the most difficult one for me and my family. The most difficult move was taking up a position which I would not given the choice but I did it anyway as it meant it would get my parents out of a rut and to give them a better life – for that I would do it in a heartbeat. I started with a lot of difficulties, sometimes things get so bad I ended up in tears and I’m no softie! Knowing it is very difficult, my mom thought I would give up. I’m proud to say I persevered and I made it. Seeing my folks happy, I’m happy! All the hard work paid off. Thanks for letting me share and hope you have an awesome Christmas and Happy New Year.

  18. muzan-e says:

I would love to know your career highlights Linda 💚

  24. Lily says:

I won’t have the heart to use this palette! I entered the giveaway anyway, just to test my luck. My year has gone by rather quickly at first. Then just before mid autumn festival, my granddad discovered he had cancer. In less than 2 months, he was gone. I’ve always known how life can suddenly throw a curve ball at us, but it reminded me once again to treasure the ones I love every single day. I still get teary eyed thinking about him, I miss him, but life still goes on for the rest of us.
Then it made me wonder, if I died suddenly one day, what would I be remembered for?

  25. Paulina Rios says:

So excited! ✌🏻️🍀😍🙋🏻The most memorable part of the year, was when I finished college and now I have my degree, now I am an Architect!

  29. agirlwholovesbeauty says:

    I’ve started an excellent job.

  30. Spa Mm says:

2016 I traveled abroad to Copenhagen!

  31. I´ve had so many ups and downs this past year, which has in part contributed to my going AFK for months at the time. The big highlights, though, are the fact that I at the moment have a full-time job, the BF and I survived the renovation of the apartment last year, and I am not living in a creepy, shabby, depressing cabin, which was my life a year ago due to aforementioned renovations. The latter is a great source of joy on my part, as the housing last year had me depressed and sick. With all the ups and downs, well, I´m not really one for astrology, but if I could I´d go into hiatus until Mercury´s done being in retrograde, or at least until next year.

  32. Julia May says:

The most memorable thing this year was my trip to Venice!

  33. Jennifer says:

I moved in with my other half! Definitely the most memorable thing this year 🙂 xx

    Best regards

  35. Sheetal says:

2016 was a tough year for but the best thing about it was winning an award for a poster I submitted to a scientific conference. This palette looks absolutely stunning!!!

  36. Deslé says:

This palette is absolutely stunning!! I love the intricate details on the palette. It looks stunning on your eyes. My year has been mostly lows than highs. Being a freelancer, work was very slow this year so I had a lot of financial strain. On the high I got to perform overseas again in the Middle East. I think that made my year so much sweeter. I am happy to say goodbye to 2016 though. I hope for good vibes and blessings in 2017 for both of us 🙂 Xxxx

  37. Janine says:

THAT PALETTE! WOW! I can’t believe how positively gorgeous it is! OMG! WOW!!!! Let’s see the most memorable thing about this year? I would have to say this crazy election. If you think the press was overwhelming in other parts of the world, imagine what it was like in the US. Talk about overwhelming! And still going!!!!!!

  38. pinksuzanne says:

The most memorable thing this year was my grandchildren came to stay for 3 weeks.

  39. Hayley Choe says:

What a year. The most memorable part has been the US election.. for reasons I probably don’t have to get into. Ah well.

This is a stunner. I share the same love for Chanel, although they don’t always create hits, they sure are a brand that suffice my need for beauty and product 90% of the time. Thank you for the chance on this giveaway and continue to wear this palette beautifully ❤️

  43. Jenn says:

This palette looks so beautiful! I love the intricate design and the look you created is so pretty!
The best part of 2016 has been my personal growth, because it wasn’t really the easiest this year. I think I’ve really matured and calmed down a lot, and thought about the important things in life. Thank you for the giveaway, and I hope you had a wonderful 2016 and will have a fab 2017!

This year’s most remarkable thing was deciding to move countries to China. I’m moving at the end of the month, with no return flight lol. This can be pretty fun! Thanks for the giveaway!

  45. Alison says:

The palette is gorgeous and it looks really beautiful on you. Well in terms of this year, suffice it to say that I am an environmental policy reporter in the US. If it weren’t for makeup, I’m not sure what else I would need to do to stay calm on our devolving planet. Anyhow, thank you so much for hosting the best giveaway this season. I never enter them usually. And of course you know that I adore your blog.

  46. Beata says:

I absolutely adore this beautiful eyeshadow palette, it’s been on my wish list but couldn’t grab it anywhere! This year has been a very proud filled one for me, my daughter graduated from a Law degree and moved onto Masters of Law – such an achievement, I am extremely proud of her💕

  47. Lisa Reiterer says:

Wow, this giveaway is adorable! 😍
2016 was a year with ups and downs. I graduated from high school and I’ve met a special person, for which I’m very grateful. But on the other side, many things have gone wrong. I was not admitted to the university and my boyfriend moved to another country.
But for our love I’m also moving to this country and I hope I can find a job or an university which I like.
So 2017 can only be better. ☺️👍🏼

  49. Lulu says:

Nothing special happened to me this year. As a stay at home mom I mostly get excited with the things my baby does/says. The highlight of the year was the time spent in a little Greek town by the sea. A quiet romantic getaway can really help to charge the batteries)

  50. bhumika menon says:

In France this palette has been available online for a while. I honestly did not except it to apply this well. I just thought it would be pretty to look at!

2016, it’s been a crazy year. I had a baby. Moved continents. Went to a complete non English speaking country. From being a full time working woman to a stay at home mom. From having all my family close by to living in a foreign country not speaking the language. From living in a big house with all my family to just the husband, dog and baby. From living In a country with very little access to makeup to lots of makeup everywhere. 2016 has been a year of change, self discovery, evolution and adventure for me.

I hope 2017 is even more exciting! I hope your 2016 was beautiful and 2017 will be even better!
Thanks for hosting this giveaway! Long time reader of your blog!

  51. Priscilla says:

This is way too gorgeous! I need this in my collection 😍

2016 has been a whirlwind. I went home after being away for years and had a lot of time to deliberate on many of life’s choices. The most memorable thing that happened to me was getting my cat. She is now part of my family and heart.

Thank you for hosting the giveaway!

  53. Alisha says:

Thank you for the amazing giveaway! One of the most memorable things to happen to me this past year was my cancer scare. It really put my life in perspective and made me even more greatful for my family.

  54. Amelia says:

Thank you for holding this amazing giveaway! The palette is breathtaking! The most memorable thing to happen to me this year is my decision to accept change and to start taking care of myself. For some this may be a given but for me this is a huge step in my life and I am looking forward to the positive changes. I can only help others if I make sure that I am strong and able. Have a great holiday season!

  55. Billie says:

Thanks for holding the giveaway!! 2016 has been a year of exploration to new places in the world like New York, Japan and Boracay!! With all the new brands coming into Singapore, it had also been a year of discovering new makeup holygrails like the Hourglass Ambient powders and IT cosmetics CC cream! 😍

  56. Oksana says:

The year was on a bit tough for me personally – having difficult time finding a job but I will get there 🙂 I am lucky to have my own personal sunshine (and it totally covers everything else!) – who became a toddler recently. Therefore, I consider this year a happy year because I was able to stay and to watch her growing up a bit more

  59. Gorgeous look on you! I was dubious would this palette be just a collectors’ item or actually wearable as the stripes were so slim, but WOW you look amazing Linda! This is the kind of festive look I’d wear for the holidays! Thank you for the great review.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve always coveted Chanel’s collections!

  61. Cristy Valle-Gorman says:

Lovely review! I’ve been looking at this palette and wondering where its being sold. I wish it was more readilly available because its truly a gorgeous one! This year has been a memorable one for me, more so because I’m still in the process of being sponsored by my spouse here in Canada and the process is long and slow and there are times when you just want to have a good cry and wish for it to be done so you can begin your life again. This year was also amazing in that my only child, my son graduated from University. Couldn’t be prouder!
