Applying Makeup on the Fly with a handful of pencils from Nudestix!

August 5, 2016

TGIF gorgeous!!!  Fall collections are flooding in, and I’ve just unboxed a massive load in my first ever Instastory.  I’m very excited about that, so please please go and take a look at that before the story disappears!  It has been a rather content-heavy week on this blog so far, one that is skewed towards a particular brand, so I wanted to give you something else to think about today.  I had the pleasure of meeting the charming trio of Ally, Taylor and Jenny recently, and finally got the chance to experience all that #Nudestix has to offer!  And today, I’d like to take you through a handful of products that I’ve been playing with as well as my thoughts on them.

Nudestix feature

Nudestix is a brand founded by Jenny, an expert makeup product developer (she used to work at MAC and had previously founded Cover FX), and her 2 teenage daughters Ally & Taylor.  The brand was conceived specifically to target the plugged in generation, who spends more time on Instagram than applying makeup, so it is all about ease of application and wearable natural looks.  Everything comes in a pencil form that even the most makeup noob is able to easily pick up and use.  The formula is anything but basic though, using the highest quality pigments and waxes to create smooth, blendable textures.

Nudestix Brows

I thought I’d start with the latest product from Nudestix – Eyebrow Stylus & Gel.  This is an interesting dual-ended pen-like product with a brow pencil on 1 end and a brow gel on the other.  The brow pencil comes in a triangle-shaped tip that allows for precise strokes using the sharp end and is wide enough to fill in the entire brow quickly.  It swivels up and down so you never have to worry about sharpening!  I particularly love the spoolie brush embedded in the other end that coats the brows with a clear gel, keeping stray hairs in place… genius!!

In case that’s not enough for you, Nudestix also offers a clear Brow Wax in its hallmark fat-tipped pencil format.  It’s really convenient as you don’t need a separate brush to apply this brow wax, and therefore don’t have to deal with having to clean a rather gnarly brush afterwards.  I personally found this better suited for those with fuller brows, because it tends to “flatten” my brows as the hairs adhere more to my skin.  However, if you have particularly stubborn strands, this may not be able to coat them sufficiently to keep them in place.  One trick could be to pick up some of the wax between your fingers and then apply them to your brows.

Nudestix Magnetic Eye Color Pencil

No stranger to fat pencil eyeshadows, in fact I adore these formats for their quick, fuss-free application.  Nudestix Magnetic Eye Color comes in 8 neutral-toned shades that are flattering across a variety of skin tones.  None of them are particularly bold, in fact they are all fairly neutral-ish, so you can pretty much pick up any one and still look pretty!  These all come with some level of sheen, some more metallic than others.  I have Spirit & Lilith… Spirit is a medium-dark metallic dual-chrome mauve-brown, whilst Lilith is a shimmering champagne beige that is now my favourite inner corner highlight shade!

Nudestix Lip + Cheek Pencil

Nudestix Lip + Cheek Pencil is a creamy pencil that works equally well on lips and cheeks.  I admit I was cynical to begin with because most products that claim to do both usually fail in 1 or the other.  Therefore, I was genuinely surprised by how well these Nudestix Lip + Cheek Pencils work!  They come in 8 wearable shades of neutral pink and blush tones, and are formulated with shea butter for smooth blend ability.  The pencils are not as fat as others out there, and are in fact the perfect size for lining the lips and filling in.  On the cheeks, they blend out easily with a few light strokes of the finger, and give a beautiful long-wearing flush.

I managed to swatch all but 1 – Mythic, which I will show you in a little while.

Each of these Lip + Cheek Pencils are well pigmented, and have a satin finish.  This Fall 2016, Nudestix will also be releasing an Intense Matte Color Lip + Cheek Pencil, which is even more pigmented, bolder with a matte finish.  There will be (also) 8 lucky shades, and I have been wearing Raven (their best seller!) for the past few weeks, and it is my absolute favourite statement lip color this season!

Clearly I am missing 3 shades in the swatches above, but I will rectify that once the collection launches in stores because I’m definitely going to add a few more to my stash!  These are some of the most comfortable matte lips I have come across, they don’t feather or migrate, and they last a decently long time!  Even after a meal, there is still a decent amount of it left on my lips which I can easily touch up!

Nudestix Concealer Pencil

The last item I wanted to show you is the Nudestix Concealer Pencil.  I am recently obsessed with concealers, and it has gotten to a point where I can tell you within the 1st swipe if it is going to be love or hate… and this one from Nudestix is a definite love!  Concealer pencils have a lot going for them because they do not require a brush to apply, and offer more precision than other concealer wands.  On the other hand, most are not suitable for undereye dark circles because they are either too thin or too dry.  Nudestix’s rendition is absolute perfection for both under eye and blemishes because the tip is just that perfect size, and the product is creamy & easily blended with a finger!  I have even taken to cleaning up around my lip area when I mess up my lipstick with this!  There are 8 shades, and I am somewhere between Light 2 and Light 3.  I would say Light 3 is close enough to my natural shade, but because it is rather yellow Light 2 works better for me when I go with a lighter foundation.

And if I didn’t believe it before, I am now convinced that it is entirely possible to finish an entire look using just a handful of pencils!

Nudestix MOTD

In the makeup look above, I am wearing Nudestix Magnetic Eye Color in Spirit all over my lids, and Lilith on the inner corners.  Brows were finished with Nudestix’s Brow Wax.  Mythic Lip + Cheek Pencil on my cheeks, and Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in Raven on my lips.  I have also used the Concealer Pencil in Light 3 to conceal lots of zits and my dark circles.  You can see this entire #motd in real life on my #instastory, but hurry before it expires!

Here are the swatches of all the items I used for your reference:

Nudestix is now available at Sephora Singapore and online, although you will have to wait a little bit more for the Eyebrow Stylus & Gel and Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil.  Every pencil comes in a nifty tin case with a generous sized mirror inside the cover and a very special sharpener made with a blade from Germany.  Each tin case fits 6 Nudestix pencils so you can carry your entire makeup look conveniently with you!

Hey Linda, I tried the brow pencils before, and didn’t really like it. It’s really a personal preference, because I much prefer my brow pencils to be hard. This one is a little too waxy for my liking. I’ve read really good things about their lipsticks though. Might have to try it one day.
