The first time i heard of Aveda was back in 2004 when a friend raved about how well the color enriching range of shampoos & conditioners helped maintained her hair color between treatments. Since then, it has been my go-to resource whenever I found myself facing long intervals between coloring sessions. However, I had never truly appreciated how much more the brand had to offer until very recently.
Thanks to Bellabox, I was offered the exciting opportunity to experience Aveda’s latest A/W 2012 Neo-Goth hair color treatment. I was so inspired by the shimmering reds and dark romantic looks, that I was prepared to break my personal vow not to expose myself to anymore chemical treatments during my pregnancy (the reassuring factor was that Aveda’s Full Spectrum Deep hair colors are naturally derived up to 93% and are Paraben free!).
However, after Ming, Educator for Aveda Singapore who was in charge of my hair makeover, had examined my hair, he gently advised against having any coloring done at this point! Apparently my hair would first have to be bleached to strip out a previous color treatment in order for the colors to latch on properly, and he wouldn’t advise bleaching on pregnant ladies. I was devastated of course, but was extremely touched by his concern for my wellbeing, and even more so when he proposed a dual scalp and hair treatment pampering session instead! Ming gave me a blissful scalp massage using Aveda’s Botanical Hair and Scalp Therapy, that left my tresses silky soft!
Finally, Ming gave me a thick layering cut and a complete blowout that left me looking quite Harajuku doll-like!
I also got to meet the lovely Vivian and Pamela, who took the time throughout my treatment to show me all the other Aveda products, and demonstrated the complete Aveda holistic philosophy. Not only was I offered soul-lifting tea, I was given a relaxing shoulder massage using their Blue Oil Balancing Concentrate and shown how to relief tension by rubbing some of this fabulous oil on my temples. Pamela also gave me a lovely hand massage using their latest Hand Relief cream which contains hydrating plant emollients, vitamins A and E, and smelled beautifully of grapefruit! This month, the Hand Relief has been repackaged in a lovely pink ribbon tube and $4 from every purchase will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® to support cruelty-free research! Aveda is truly an inspiring company that is not only committed to producing great products, but also acts responsibly and responsibly towards the environment and the world that we live in! Before I left, Vivian & Pamela took me on a sensory journey, to explore my inner Chakra. Based on my emotional and mental needs of the moment, I picked out my personal scent to nourish my holistic well-being. I’m not a big believer of the Ayurvedic philosophy, but i certainly appreciate a great scent!
After having to beg friends to lug heavy litre bottles of shampoo & conditioners back from the US for years, I am really excited that Aveda is finally here in Singapore! What is even better is their pricing is very closely benchmarked to US, not marked-up like other companies, and very reasonable when compared against other salon brands! After my session, I am even more excited to explore all the other products that Aveda has to offer!
Update: Aveda was so kind to invite me back to experience their SS13 colors / looks!! Read all about it here.
