It has been many years since I last found something from Clinique that I truly enjoyed, and even though I’ve embraced the cute Cheek and Lid Pops like every other good makeup junkie out there… I’ve only just gone mad about the new Clinique Pop Matte Matte and Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer!
I love a bold lip, that bright pop of colour brings life to my face instantly. Add to that a matte finish, and it is all the rage. The problem with all the trendy matte lippies is that they dry out my lips terribly, and/or emphasize the lines on my lips and age me another 10 years. So I am really embracing the new, improved class of matte lips! Clinique gives us not just 1, but 2 new lip formulas from the Clinique Pop family, a traditional lipstick and a liquid lip!
Clinique Pop Matte Matte Lip Colour + Primer is a creamy and lightweight lipstick that glides smoothly over the lips without tugging, and fills in those dreaded lines on my lips. It is nicely opaque in a single swipe, and packs an impressive dose of pigments for a stunning kissable pout. The formula has good longevity whilst still remaining comfortable on my lips and does not dry them out even with continued use. There is also a nice curve to the bullet that allows the lipstick to hug the lips as you apply, and a pointed sharp tip to outline perfectly.
There are 7 shades available, and I have 4 of them to show you today:
All the shades that I tested have a subtle satin shine to them even though they are billed as matte lipsticks. Personally, I prefer this over the flat matte look as it makes my lips look plumper and more attractive.
Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer is a a liquid lipstick formulated with a blend of lip-nourishing oils such as avocado oil, sunflower oil and vitamin E. It applies easily and smoothly with a thin liquid texture, and I found the sponge-tipped applicator easy to use. As with most liquid lip products, this is saturated with colour and does not leave my lips feeling stick nor parched. The formula is closer to the Chanel Rouge Allure Ink [reviewed here] than Kat Von D, which is to say it never really dries down completely, and is not bullet proof. On the other hand, it feels much more comfortable and has a soft shine to it.
There are 7 shades available, and the one I have here is 03 Candied Apple Pop:
The way I like to wear these is to first apply the color directly onto the center of my lips. Thereafter, I use my finger and gently tap to spread the colour to the edges of my lips. This gives a softer outline and prevents excessive product from building up in the corners. I highly recommend you try this method, as it gives a younger and fresher look, and is popular with the K-beauty crowd!
I found both Clinique Pop Matte Matte Lip Colour + Primer and Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer to be really easy to wear and beautiful on the lips. They have good longevity, lasting all day without fading. However, these do wear off with eating, and can be tricky to remove completely with just a tissue as they pack so much pigment in them. They are priced at SGD35 each, and are available now at all Clinique counters.
