Accelerating Skin Repair with Biotherm Blue Therapy
September 13, 2015
I’ve always wanted to try Biotherm’s Blue Therapy skincare range… perhaps I’m superficial, but that particular shade of blue shifting into deep midnight blue really attracts me. Of course, it is what is contained within that matters the most, and now that I finally had the chance to experience the range for myself, I’m really happy to find that it is as luxurious as I had imagined!
These days, antiaging skincare is all about addressing cellular inflammation before they develop into signs of aging. And Biotherm has recently reformulated its Blue Therapy serum to take this into account.
Biotherm Blue Therapy Accelerated serum is powered by an extract of Alaria Esculenta, a deep-water algae native to Greenland’s glacial waters. It is rich in antioxidants, helping skin defend against free-radical damage and other environmental aggressors and stress. This prevents a build-up of damaged and aged proteins, and also boost skin’s natural ability to detox. Furthermore, Alaria Esculenta contains high concentrations of lipids, minerals and essential amino acids that activates cellular metabolism, thereby accelerates repair and the synthesis of new epidermal lipids for skin’s barrier function.
In addition to the new ingredient, Biotherm’s Blue Therapy skincare range is formulated with a cocktail of 3 aquatic ingredients. Aphanizomenon flos-aquae is a self-regenerating micro-algae that has thrived for 3.5 billion years, and contains minerals, vitamin B, beta-carotene, amino acid and proteins; all good as emollients, anti-inflammatory agents, or antioxidants. Laminaria ochroleuca is a yellow algae that never loses its natural sturdy shape even though it’s being exposed to strong tides, waves, currents and winds; and is thus a good firming agent. And of course, Life Thermal Plankton which is a common ingredient in all Biotherm products helps to stimulate various essential biological functions in the skin, maintaining its overall health.
For all its goodness, Biotherm Blue Therapy Accelerated remains lightweight and absorbs easily. The product is easily dispensed via a glass dropper, and smooths over my entire face and neck in a comforting veil. I love the comforting feel of the serum as it envelops my skin, and the lightweight fast-absorbing texture allows me to get on with my life in a heartbeat. It gives a noticeable boost to my skin’s hydration, and keeps it moisturised throughout the day. With this serum on my skin, I no longer feel the need to layer as many products as I did in the past.
I am slightly OCD about using skincare from the same collection, so I was happy to be able to try out the rest of the Blue Therapy products. These are not new nor have they been reformulated, but I thought I’d give you a quick introduction anyway.
The Blue Therapy range does not consist of a cleanser, so the first product in the regime is the Blue Therapy Cosmetic Water. This is a lightweight clear watery toner that feels slightly cooling against the skin. I soak a cotton pad generously with this and sweep it across my face immediately after cleansing, and it feels invigorating and fresh.
Eye creams are very important to me, and Biotherm Blue Therapy Eye has been a real pleasure to use. It is a silky cream that glides over my eye area and keeps them properly nurtured without any sense of heaviness. When layered with my favourite eye serum in the evenings, it helps me wake up the next day with bigger, brighter eyes.
And to seal in all the goodness, Biotherm Blue Therapy Cream is a luxurious treat. It is a rich cream with a silky texture, and a tiny bit goes a long way. There are very few facial creams that I’ve been able to use successfully on both face and neck, but this has been amazing on my neck! After slathering it on at night, I would wake up to a smoother, plumper and brighter neck!
Overall, I have enjoyed using Biotherm’s Blue Therapy skincare range. The light citrus scent is invigorating and the luxurious texture gives me a soothing pampered feel. I loved how comforting the newly reformulated Blue Therapy Accelerated serum felt, and the hydration boost is unmistakeable. So much so that when used in combination with the cream, I almost felt it too rich for me – something I had never said of any creams! On the other hand, I did notice a relatively high concentration of silicone employed in the products, particularly with the serum. Whilst it is not unusual and not harmful to the skin, especially considering the very accessible price point [SGD99 for 30ml], I just think it is unnecessary and the immediate emollient results are not representative of the actual active ingredients contained.

The blue is stunning right??? I’m such a sucker! LOL! Hope you can get to try these… especially when the weather turns dry, these will be quite helpful.
Oh I loved the serum in oil, so maybe I’ll love these too. Will have to test them!
Definitely give the new Blue Therapy Accelerated serum a test!
I also love this packaging! A friend of mine used to work at Biotherm counter and once gave me a few deluxe samples. I remember enjoying them a lot.
