Come August, Addiction by Ayako will be releasing a whole new Tough Love eyeshadow collection comprising of 99 shades, and completely replacing the current range. There’s no information yet on whether all the 64 current shades will be carried over, and i’m excited to see how much better they can get since they seem pretty much near perfect as they are. While we wait, I thought it might be fun to take a look at a few singles that I picked up over the past few months. Just in case you feel like checking them out before they get replaced.
I picked up the Tokyo Story limited edition eyeshadow palette from Addiction’s Holiday 2014 collection at the beginning of this year. The palette is still available in case you are interested, and I recommend it for any makeup collector as it features amazingly fun holographic cover! I created a stock-motion video to capture the joy I felt when I first laid hands on it, and it featured some other makeup that I was having fun with earlier this year. Check it out!
Tokyo Story also contains 2 singles from the permanent (until August) collection. The shades are Moroccan Rose and Dizzy Love. These are fun shades to add to any eyeshadow wardrobe, but not quite wearable on their own. Well, I have actually, worn Dizzy Love over Moroccan Rose, which was fun for Chinese New Year, but not very suitable for daily life. So, I added 2 more singles to my palette – Baghdad Cafe and Flower Carpet (from the Spring 2015 collection).
Here is my completed personalized palette featuring (clockwise from top left) Moroccan Rose, Dizzy Love, Flower Carpet, and Baghdad Cafe. I’m afraid the eyeshadows are not in their brand new pristine condition as I had already dipped into the first 2 before acquiring the other 2, and then I couldn’t wait to swatch Baghdad Cafe. But still so gorgeous aren’t they? I love the complex shimmers in Baghdad Cafe, and I rather felt the 4 shades came together very nicely as a quad.
Here is another look – in clockwise direction from top left: Flower Carpet, Baghdad Cafe, Moroccan Rose and Dizzy Love. As you can see, Dizzy Love is pretty much pressed micro-shimmer, and Flower Carpet has lots of gorgeous shimmers in there too. Yes, as you can guess (if you don’t already know) Addiction (and most other Japanese brands) produces some really gorgeous shimmery goodness.
As you can see from the swatches above,
Unlikely as it was, I managed to use all 4 shades in the EOTD above. First I applied Baghdad Cafe all over the lid, then I dabbed on Moroccan Rose in the inner corner of my lid. Thereafter, I layered some Flower Carpet very lightly on the center third of my lid, and darkened the outer corner with more Baghdad Cafe. Finally, I just dabbed a bit of Dizzy Love on the middle of my lid. Ran a bit of Baghdad Cafe over my lower lash line, and used a black liquid liner on my upper lash line to complete the look.
And the full look in context:
On face: Dior Nude Air Serum Foundation over Sunday Riley Breathable Tinted Primer, Finished with Guerlain Meteorites Rainbow Pearls.
On Eyes: Addiction Beauty Eyeshadows Baghdad Cafe, Moroccan Rose, Flower Carpet, and Dizzy Love. Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Eyeliner.
On cheeks: THREE Color Veil for Cheeks #22 Sweet Thing
On lips: Givenchy Le Rouge-a-Porter #104 Beige Floral
I hope you’ve enjoyed my endless meanderings this humpday. Does anything here pique your interest? Counting down to August’s launch of the new Addiction by Ayako Tough Love collection!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this look on your eyes !! <3
Thanks Belly!!!
I really love that red in there! It’s unconvential but you totally make it work.
Thank you!! I’m glad to hear! Sometimes one can never be sure…. what looks cool to a makeup nut like me, may be completely cuckoo to others! ;P
Wow, how did I miss Baghdat Cafe *kicks herself out*. I got two shades, which are both nice but I am not blown away. Hope to see the other 99, why don’t they launch 100? 😉
Lol Sara! Too many to ogle, and i bet you went straight for the mattes eh? I’ve been eyeing Baghdad Cafe for a long time, but it’s hard to pull the trigger based on just online swatches.
Apparently Ayako decided on 99 shades because she wanted to send the message that her work is not complete yet! 😉
WOW 99 shades! It would be so hard to pick just 4 for a palette though 🙂 I love the look you created, and that you added a red in your pick. I probably would go for something safe myself.
I know right?!! My work on this palette wasn’t as hard since 2 of them came with the casing. It was a matter of choosing another 2 to complement the existing. But i was drawn to this particular duo to begin with because of that red Moroccan Rose. There were 2 other cases in that collection, I actually liked the other designs better, but those shades weren’t as outstanding to me.
