It’s been a crazy manicure week! I’ve been drooling over Chanel’s Provocation (a Spring 2013 launch), and finally picked it up last week. Only to find the latest YSL Tie & Dye Top Coats in stock last Friday!! These are so unlike anything else that I’ve ever seen that I absolutely had to go get not 1, but 2 of them!!
Inspired by the Couture Tie & Dye, YSL nail lacquer plays colour in gradation effect just like a sophisticated total look. The coloured base is covered by a “pop coat” for a sugary glossy result. Top Coat can also be used alone for a “sheer” glittery result on the nails.
These are designed to go on your regular matte nail polish to give a glittery, holographic effect. However, they can also be used on their own for a very subtle look. To use, shake the bottle well to mix all 3 layers.
I couldn’t wait to test them out, so I layered them over my existing Dior Diablotine (read more about that here). Not the best candidate for a base color, as Diablotine was shimmery on its own. So I layered Tie & Dye on the 2nd, 4th & 5th fingers, leaving the thumb with the base Diablotine alone, and 3rd finger just Tie & Dye for comparison.
Please pardon the sorry state of my manicures!! Regardless, you can see how #2 Pop Coat added alot more shimmer & depth to my red manicure. #4 Ice Coat is aptly named as it created a frosted finish that would be simply perfect with a darker base (i’m sooo waiting for my Jin Soon polishes to test them out together!).
And over this weekend, I finally had a chance to remove everything, trim my nails… and now with Chanel’s Provocation! I layered Pop Coat over my thumb and ring finger.
I was so excited when I first saw Provocation. But when I got home, I realized it was very close to OPI’s Can You Tapas This? and Butter London’s La Moss except Provocation had a wee bit more purple and is less deep. Regardless, it’s a lovely classy color that I am very partial to!
YSL’s Tie & Dye top coats are limited edition, and only 24 pieces of each of the 4 colors are available in Singapore! The other 2 colors are #1 Cool Coat (pale pink shimmer), and #3 Hip Coat (purple shimmer). They are only sold at the Ion YSL beauty boutique, and selling FAST (if not all gone by the time this post is up!)!! Are you one of the lucky girls to get one??
Oooh! I got the same colours too! 😀 I haven’t swatched them though! :X
Good taste! ;D Cant wait to see your swatches! I had a hard time deciding between blue & purple….
