YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats & Set and Matte Lip Coat

Party season means… bold, impactful lips that laaaaasst through the night!  Here to stay, are the new YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats.  These leather matte lipsticks are no stranger to the matte lip lover for sure, especially with their lip-hugging yet gentle formula. There are 7 new exciting shades this season and I have 4 of them to show you.  And in case you can’t find something you like, YSL introduces a revolutionary Set and Matte Lip Coat to transform any lip color that you have into a long-lasting matte lip!

YSL Rouge pur Couture The Mats

YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats is a beautiful range of lipsticks featuring the creamy YSL Rouge Pur Couture formula in a matte finish.  Described as “stretch-leather”, The Mats have the ability to mould to the curvature of the lips for a full, sensual pout.  Completely unlike those matte lipsticks that dry flat and have a strangle-hold so tight that emphasizes every line and wrinkle; YSL The Mats have a soft lustrous finish, and a true-to-tube color fidelity.

There are 7 new shades this season, and I have 4 of them to show you:

From left to right:

  • 219 Rouge Tatouage – bright cherry red with a cool undertone
  • 220 Cray Tangerine – bold orange with a strong warm undertone
  • 221 Rose Ink – poppy barbie-doll pink
  • 222 Black Red Code – dark wine red with a slightly warm undertone to give a hint of chocolate

And here are the lip swatches for your reference:

I love how long lasting these are, staying on well despite eating and drinking, fading off only with a heavy meal to leave a slight stain.  These YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats feel very comfortable on my lips, and I did not experience any flaking even after multiple days of continued wear.

YSL Set & Matte Lip Coat

The cool new thing to watch out for in this launch is the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Set & Matte Lip Coat.  This is a clear gel that feels like a gloss, except rather than adding a shiny finish to the underlying lip color, it mattifies and sets.  Furthermore, it extends the wear time of the lipstick, transforming your existing lip wardrobe into a decadent party-perfect line-up!  I have demonstrated the transformative effects of this Set & Matte Lip Coat by adding it to a high-shine lipstick below:

YSL Set & Matte Lip Coat comparison

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Set & Matte Lip Coat comes in a small clear squeeze tube with a slanted flattened nozzle tip reminiscent to lip balms that allows you to swipe and go.  However, I prefer squeezing out a tiny drop onto a clean finger and tapping that finger over my lips.  This way, I prevent transfer of lipstick to the Set & Matte Lip Coat, and also minimize sheering out of the lipstick.  A tiny bit, perhaps the size of a grain or rice, is sufficient.  Which is good thing because YSL Rouge Pur Couture Set & Matte Lip Coat is limited edition and I would hate to run out of it!

Both the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Set & Matte Lip Coat and the new shades of The Mats are now out in counters.  Have you checked them out yet?

  • The matte lip coat really makes a difference! I’m loving that pink shade too. YSL lipsticks are one of my favorite formulas!

    • it really does! And it actually makes the lipstick last much longer than on its own too! Brilliant!

      • OMG, and it can probably work with other lipsticks too? Hmm!

        • yes I had used it on top of a Chanel lip crayon in the example above
