YSL Glossy Stain Rebel Nudes: Absolute kismet

September 25, 2013

This Fall, YSL took makeup to a whole new magical stratosphere with the introduction of the Glossy Stain Rebel Nudes.  After reading so much about them, I was so happy to finally see them launched in Singapore.  The new range of Glossy Stain Rebel Nudes possess the unsurpassed staying power and weightlessness of YSL’s infamous Glossy Stains.  What makes the Rebel Nudes even more exciting is the new Euphotic Colored Light technology that allows light to pass through like a gloss, together with bits of golden shimmer to give lips a plump 3D effect.  Think luminous lip glosses with the staying power of a Glossy Stain!

I was in Hong Kong for work last week, and picked up YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain Rebel Nude #103 Pink Taboo the day I landed.  It was completely unplanned, but the moment I put it on, it was absolute kismet.  I never knew what was missing in my makeup life, until I put it on.

I had about at least 8-10 back-to-back meetings everyday, with little time in between.  Every time I sat down with somebody, I had to order a drink, and then was are obliged to finish it.  So it was quite an amazing feat to find Pink Taboo stayed on all day!  Yes, ALL DAY.  There were no embarrassing lipstick stains on my coffee mugs, no weird patchy lips where the lipstick had rubbed off, no ugly stains on teeth, etc etc.  My lips stayed absolutely perfect throughout, and I didn’t have to spare an ounce of energy worrying about how I looked.  It was an exhausting trip, and I would have probably looked like a ghost by the end of it if not for some color on my lips!

I picked Pink Taboo because it was the most wearable “nude” pink shade in the 10-color line-up.  It is a warm, natural pink that works well for any skin tone.  It is one of those my-lips-but-better shades that works really well for day-to-day wear, and transitions into the night easily (provided you add some pop to the eyes).

I love, love, loved it so much, the moment I got back home, I went out and bought another Rebel Nude!

And this time, I went with YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain Rebel Nude #105 Corail Hold Up!

Corail Hold Up is another easy-to-wear day shade, but with a stronger lean towards peach-coral, albeit still with a pink note to it.

Personally, I found these Rebel Nudes to be sheerer than the traditional Glossy Stains.  It still gives good color pay-off, and leaves a stain behind long after they’re gone (which is almost never!).  But a trick that I picked up from the YSL SA in HK, is to layer the Rebel Nude over a similar-colored lipstick.  Something with some shine like the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine works fantastically well because it provides better color base and yet feels moisturizing!  It also helps extend the wear of the Rebel Nude – I applied them once in the morning, touched up Rebel Nude once after lunch, and wear them all the way til dinner time!

I played with my existing stash, and found Chanel Rouge Coco Shine #79 Saga worked really well with Pink Taboo, and Tom Ford Lip Color Shine #09 Insidious was a gorgeous match with Corail Hold Up!!!

I also swatched the rest of the Rebel Nudes for your reference:
