“I wanted to capture a very particular look of skin that is bathed in sunset light in the summer. It is a sultry and sublime glow. In this light, every woman looks irresistibly relaxed and sensual.” — TOM FORD
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you would probably have figured out by now that I’m a huge HUGE fan of Tom Ford beauty. I have not written much about my love for TF so far, because there are already numerous reviews about all that I owned thus far. So, when I saw the looks for Tom Ford Summer 2013 collection, I knew I had to get my hands on them! That proved to be no easy feat, as only a measly 5 pieces (???) of each of the items were imported! The entire collection is also soldout worldwide, although there seems to be a few pieces surfacing here and there before they’re all snapped up right away again. I am soo grateful to be able to secure all the items I wanted, thanks to a very patient Saks SA who called up god-knows-how-many stores to track down inventory; and my 38-week pregnant gf in London who ran out to Selfridges to grab the remainders!
And so, before the summer is out, I’m happy to introduce you, to my latest Tom Ford obsessions!
Tom Ford Skin Illuminator in Fire Lust
Tom Ford’s Fire Lust Skin Illuminator is the star of the collection. Inspired by the look of skin bathed in summer evening light, Fire Lust is a warm peach-pink fluid with golden shimmers. It is packaged in a pump dispenser similar to the Tom Ford Traceless Foundation (reviewed here). This is intended to be an illuminator, not a blush, so those expecting much stronger color payoff might be disappointed.
The consistency is watery and thin, and feels weightless on my skin. I found it easiest to pump out a small dollop onto the back of my hand, and then lightly dab onto my cheeks on top of my foundation. This way, I was able to build up the intensity fairly easily. The end result is a dewy, sun-kissed look that I’ve never been able to achieve before… major LOVE!!
Fire Lust can also be worn mixed with foundation or moisturizer for an all-over glow, perfect for those who wish to get that summery look without exposing yourself to harmful UV rays! If you can afford to spare, you can also apply Fire Lust to your nose bridge, shoulder bones and your shins to create the ideal lounge-by-the-pool-all-day look!
The only drawback to this amazing product, is the smell…. I can’t quite describe it, but it does make me wrinkle up my nose momentarily. It dissipates fairly quickly though, so it doesn’t bother me too much.
Tom Ford Illuminating Cheek Color in Blush Guilt
For Summer 2013, Tom Ford launched 2 Illuminating Cheek colors – Blush Guilt (pink), and Bronzed Amber (bronze). I chose Blush Guilt because I thought Bronzed Amber looked too dark on my cool-toned Asian skin. Both comes in a convenient twist-up stick, lending them to comparisons with NARS Multiples, although I find them to be completely different products.
Blush Guilt was described to grant a “natural, radiant glow”, and looked like a warm pink bronze in the stick. However, when I applied it, the color did not show up on my skin at all, leaving instead a sticky sheen. I found it impossible to take a proper swatch photo.
The very first time I tried it, I must have swiped it 4-5 times over my cheeks before realizing that the color doesn’t intensify with additional layers, but the stickiness and sheen did! I found the stickiness hardest to deal with as my hair would get caught up on my cheeks and leave streaks when I pulled them off. One way to tone down the stickiness is to tap on some loose powder and/or blusher, although it still does not eliminate it entirely.
Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Pink Haze
Tom Ford released 2 cream eye colors for Summer 2013 – Pink Haze and Escapade (gold). These looked so beautiful in the press releases that I was backwards and forwards between the 2… If only I had seen and experienced them in person, I would have gotten both, but alas… I only got 1 because, frankly, at GBP28 (approx. SGD56) a pop, these aren’t exactly easy on the pocket. I eventually settled on Pink Haze because I already have several golden eye colors, and I figured if anybody could do shimmery pink on the lids without making my eyes look puffy, it’d be Tom!
Pink Haze is a beautiful rose color that has some silvery tinge to it. It is a lovely mousse texture, and the color-payoff is excellent – a little goes a long way! I touched the tip of my eyeshadow brush into the pot, and it came out with the thicker swatch at the bottom of the picture above. Then I swiped the brush a 2nd time on my arm (without re-dipping into the pot) for the sheared out swatch. I found it a lot of fun to play with – all over the lid to complete that relaxed, sun-kissed easy look; or as a base for shading. It also stayed on my oily lids ALL DAY without creasing or fading, which is a major feat in my world.
Tom Ford Summer 2013 is completely different from all the other summer collections I have seen this year. Instead of a bright, colorful collection, Tom Ford has chosen to create a handful of products that lend the ability to bathe the skin with a sensual, radiant sun-kissed glow. Looking back at the items I had chosen, all three share the same color palette and I am unlikely to use all of them together. However, each have the ability to create the luxe illusion of a day out cruising the seas, or endless summer in the Maldives. This is probably what it would look like, after sex on the beach!
The collection also contains a pearl colored nail lacquer in Vapor, 2 bronzing powders in Gold Dust and Terra, and a lip lacquer in Pink Lust.
Did you manage to bag any of the Summer 2013 collection? Do share!!!
