I’m getting onto these new makeup items as quickly as I can… but between Chinese New Year and being sick all of last week, my body is just completely spazed out. All I want is to stay in bed and watch Suits on replay all day, and pray to the TV gods that Mike Ross does not get convicted. But I need to work, or at least put in appearances at the office, and when I’m low on mojo, there is nothing easier to apply than one of Tom Ford’s top-notch eyeshadow quads. And this Spring 2016 Tom Ford has released 5 new exciting quads to energize the most weary soul. Today, I would like to show you the one that I’ve been reaching for the most – Tom Ford Disco Dust Eyeshadow Quad!
Tom Ford makes my favourite eyeshadow palettes, and I have been collecting a bunch of them (although I have enough restraint to keep myself from buying every single one of them) until the last round of culling. Even half asleep, I can almost always manage to get an eye look done effortlessly because Tom Ford palettes are completely intuitive to use. More importantly, they stay on my oily lids all day even without an additional primer, and does not crease nor fade as the day progresses.
Over the past 2 years, Tom Ford has discontinued 6 palettes – Violet Dusk, Crushed Amethyst, Cobalt Rush, Burnished Amber, Sahara Haze, and Cognac Sable. With the new releases, there is something familiar in each of them, in a way it seems as though Tom Ford has taken a little of the old quads and injected a bit of modernity to give them a new breath of life. But in case you already own a bunch of the old favourites, there is still something completely fresh about each of the new quads to love!
Disco Dust to me, feels like the love child between Cognac Sable [reviewed here] and Burnished Amber [reviewed here]. I loved both palettes very much loved and so this was a very natural first palette I picked up from the new releases. Disco Dust comprises of warm-toned neutrals along the peach-brown theme, with a nice range of satin to glitter shades.
There is something utterly irresistible about a brand new Tom Ford Eye Color Quad… those lush shades that look almost moist to me… the promise of buttery smoothness….
And here are the swatches, in clockwise direction starting from top left of the palette:
From left to right, the shades are:
Pale champagne glitter over a translucent base. This is one of the hallmarks of a Tom Ford Eye Color Quad, and is meant to be patted over one of the other shades in the palette.
Light peach-brown with a satin finish. This is meant to be more of a base shade, and hence is not completely opaque on its own, although it does show up fairly well and is buildable.
Dark chocolate brown with hints of burgundy micro-shimmers over a satin finish
Medium peach-copper with a shimmery finish
To start, I first applied the pale peach-brown all over my lid as a base shade. Thereafter, I applied the medium peach-copper on the inner 2-thirds of my lid, followed by the dark chocolate brown on the outer third. Finally, I dabbed on a little of the glitter on the center of my lid for some pop. Lined upper and lower lash lines with the dark brown for some definition, finished with mascara.
And here is the full look in context. Very easy, breezy, day-office appropriate look that still manages to be elegant and interesting! I paired it with Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Lost Cherry, which is perfect for this look and my favourite lip color this season.
Overall, I’m really loving Tom Ford Disco Dust Eye Color Quad! The colors complement each other very well, and I can get a full eye look done without having to overthink things. I’m very biased towards Tom Ford glitters, as they add a nice pop of dimension to my otherwise small beady eyes, and I generally do not encounter any fall outs (Disco Dust included). Even though Disco Dust is warmer-toned, I was happy to see the peach/copper shade did not make my eyes look swollen, but is just the right hue to be flattering and gives the effect of opening up my eyes! This is 1 of 2 most popular palettes this season, and I definitely see why! My buddy Sara also reviewed this, so hop on over and check out her take on Disco Dust!
