TheFaceShop Myeonghan Miindo Heaven Grade Ginseng Essence & Hydrogel Eye Patch

February 15, 2015

TheFaceShop is a Korean Beauty brand under the LG umbrella (the 2nd largest cosmetics player in Korea), and it is one of the largest beauty brands from Korea with over 700 stores worldwide. The brand’s key selling point is its focus on using natural ingredients to provide healthy skincare solutions at affordable prices. I was sent a couple of items from its Myeonghan Miindo Heaven Grade Ginseng collection recently, and have really enjoyed them so I thought I’d share them with you today!

TheFaceShop’s Myeonghan Miindo Heaven Grade Ginseng collection is a premium anti-aging skincare range that is infused with 24K gold essence, 6-year old “heaven”-grade wild ginseng and natural pine mushrooms. It consists of 3 different lines – the original Myeunghan Miindo Heaven Grade Ginseng line, whitening, and wrinkle care line.

Myeonghan Miindo Heaven Grade Ginseng Essence [SGD63.90 for 45ml] is from the main line and it is designed to layer perfectly with the other items in the line to boost skin’s resilience, plumping up the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. As with every other items in the range, the essence contains “heaven”-grade ginseng, the highest grade of red ginseng which takes 6 years to cultivate. This ginseng contains high concentration of saponin which is known to promote skin regeneration. The other key ingredient is natural pine mushrooms, a rare mushroom that grows on matured pine trees in the wild. It contains large amount of β-glucan which helps to promote skin immunity, regeneration, boosts moisture, and promotes blood circulation.

The essence comes in a nice shapely bottle with a pump dispenser. It dispenses almost like a clear gel with golden flakes suspended in it. Upon contact with the skin, it melts away so it is easy to spread across the entire face. I also found it is quickly absorbed, and did not leave any sticky or heavy sensation. The use of gold in skincare is controversial…there are stories relating its use in Egyptian and ancient Chinese medicine. Gold has been said to minimize collagen depletion and boost elasticity, however there is no real independent study to support that. Regardless, it it certainly ups the luxe factor, and at a minimum, brings a look of radiance to the skin.

I have been using Myeonghan Miindo Heaven Grade Ginseng Essence for about a month now, slowly integrating it into my existing skincare routine. To be honest, I hadn’t seen tremendous line-busting since using this, but having recently gone through Thermage recently, my skin is currently at its peak condition.  I did not break out upon first usage, which is already a huge point in its favor.  Also, the ingredient list is packed with useful plant-based extracts and emollients, which at this very accessible price level, is quite impressive.  I did find my skin looking smoother and more radiant every morning when I wake up, which may or may not be directly attributed to this essence, but I’ve really enjoyed using this.  The texture is lovely, and the light pleasant herbal scent feels incredibly relaxing to me!

Myeonghan Miindo Heaven Grade Ginseng Hydrogel Eye Patch [SGD42.90 for 30 pairs] is from the “wrinkle care” line and targets fine lines under the eyes.  The eye patches come in a jar container with a reuseable plastic lid that keeps the contents sealed to prevent the essence from drying up, and a spatula to lift the eye patches out.

When I first opened this jar, I was completely wow-ed by the glistening gold lying atop each of the eye patches!  I also love the hydrogel material as it is thin and light, and adheres to the curves of my undereye area perfectly.  The only problem that I had was in the shape of the patches as they don’t seem to fit my undereye area perfectly.  No matter how I position it, I would invariably have a tiny gap or overlap my tear ducts somewhat.

In addition to the 6-year old ginseng extract and natural pine mushroom that is consistent throughout the Myeonghan Miindo range, the “wrinkle care” line also contains snow lotus which is a known anti-oxidant, and 24k gold.

When I first received this eye patch, I was suffering from another bout of my “usual” dry, itchy redness on the area directly under my eyes.  Immediately, I placed this eye patch under my eyes, and kept it up for 3 nights.  After the 3rd night, the redness under my eyes were completely gone!  My skin was no longer dry and itchy either!  Ever since then, I’ve taken to using this every time I find myself deprived of sleep, and would wake up to smooth skin under my eyes every time.  I’ve also taken to slapping this on the moment I sense anything flaring up near my eye area.  At this price point, I can afford to slap on an eye mask every night!

Have you tried anything from TheFaceShop before?

Hi I know you showed a picture of how the eye patch isn’t positioning properly. I found that after putting it on for 2-3 min I was able to stretch it out a little (while it’s still on my face) to reposition it to fit the contour of my eyes.

Thank you for this review! I’ve been curious about the use of ginseng in creams (I think it was from reading some Sulwhasoo reviews), and since I have yet to find my perfect face cream, I’ll definitely pick the one from this line on my next online order. And thanks for including the ingredients list too! I was really happy to see that ginseng is the second ingredient.
And those eyepatches look so luxurious! As always, the pretty shimmers caught me (I think I must’ve been a magpie in a past life, lol).
I don’t think I’ve tried anything from TheFaceShop before, but now you’ve definitely converted me, lol

Hi Sil, yes korean skincare seems to feature ginseng quite a bit. That herb is an intrinsic part of the korean culture, and so it extends naturally to beauty. Naturally, the Western world is a bit slow to adapt, which explains the lack of independent study in that regard. There is a face cream from the line too in case you are looking to try one. And we are all magpies when it comes to beauty!!!

Didn’t know TFS is under the LG umbrella, always thought it was Amore Pacific! Skincare wise, I’ve had much more luck with LG brands, and AP I like for makeup. Have been very intrigued by this line since I saw sneek peaks on IG, and it sounds like I gotta get my hands a fee tubs of thise eye patches!!

Yes I’ve seen it quoted as being under AP in many bblogs, but it’s really under LG. Those eye patches are soooo good, you gotta get them! And cheap too!
