I don’t have a habit of buying lipsticks just to collect, because already I’m finding it hard to keep track of all that I own, and lipsticks aren’t really very long-lasting by nature. So it was a leap for me to go out and order Tatcha’s Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick just on the basis of pretty…. But seriously, look at it!!!
I remembered waking up one morning to the news that Tatcha is releasing their first ever makeup item, and then spending precious minutes figuring out if I should go ahead and order it. With international shipping cost to factor in, it was not quite that straightforward a decision. By the time I had made up my mind, the lipstick was soldout. When it finally came back in stock, I mustered up the courage, added a few more things into my shopping cart under the guise of shopping for my Christmas gifts well in advance, and pulled the trigger. And when it arrived, I was simply too blown away by the sheer beauty of the lipstick to find the moral courage to use it.
Just like all things Tatcha, Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick is snugly packaged in a pull-out carton box that I always repurpose for some small trinkets around the house. The lipstick comes in a beautiful glossy black lacquered case that snaps in place magnetically over a shiny golden tube. And the bullet of the lipstick is bevelled like a gem, multi-faceted, intricately gorgeous. I’ve never seen anything like this before!
Tatcha Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick is a coral-red (vermillion!) that has cool-neutral undertones, so that it is flattering across a variety of skin types. For me, warm-reds clash with my skin tone and make my teeth look really yellow, so I am very careful in choosing reds. Thankfully, Tatcha was true to their word, and managed to create a vermillion that has just enough pink in there.
What really surprised me was how intensely pigmented the lipstick was, and yet it felt feather light on my lips. Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick had a satin-matte finish which was mostly matte without emphasizing lines and dryness on my lips. It also stayed on put on my lips, even outlasting a meal and many cups of coffee. At the end of 6 hours I could just smack my lips together, and still have a nice coating of colour!
I know Kyoto Red is currently out of stock, but it might just come back again… you never know. I also heard news that Tatcha will be launching some new color makeup next month, so definitely keep your eyes peeled for that! Chances are, if you blink, it’s gone!
Hi, how do you order from Tatcha? Mind sharing the link?
ahhh! It is beautiful on you!
Thanks Joyce! It’s really flattering!
I love how it looks on you Linda! There are quite a few things I want to try from Tatcha, but I don’t trust our customs anymore. AT ALL. Most of my readers are from the States, believe it or not, and I get emails asking about the brand. Erm, too bad. LOL!
Even if it comes via Fedex, Lily? It sucks when we can’t get hold of stuff for logistical reasons right? Let’s chat about this soon, and see if I can help! 😉
