I have never relied heavily on lip balms, there never was a need to until a recent range of lipsticks ruined them. After having a really great experience with Tatcha so far, I decided to try their Tatcha Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm.
Everything about this lip balm smacks of luxury. From the well-constructed box packaging that pulls out like a tressor, to reveal a hefty glass jar… all classic Tatcha elegance. The decadent icing on the cake, is the stunning 24-karat gold leaf layered on top of the lip balm itself. I have never seen anything quite like this.
Apprehensive as I was to dip into the gold leaf, it is actually extremely fine, and practically melts to the touch. It leaves a very subtle golden shimmer on the lips, but it is only on the very top of the balm, so the shimmer effect is only available whilst there is still gold left.
The balm itself does not contain any shimmer at all, and has a nice consistency to it that is not oily / sticky like most other lip balms. Instead, it covers my lips well and gets absorbed without a trace. This is quite a refreshing experience. I apply it when I’m moisturizing my face, and by the time I’m done with most of my makeup, my lips are all prepped and ready for whatever lipstick I have planned!
I was also pleasantly surprised to find this lip balm was very lightly scented. It took me a while to get accustomed to the scent of the One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil (reviewed here), so was very glad that the lip balm was so easy on the senses.
Tatcha Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm is formulated with squalane for hydration, Japanese Camellia oil for antioxidant and protection, licorice to brighten, and rice oil to moisturize. As always, Tatcha’s products contain its signature HADASEI-3 Complex; without mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfates, parabens, and other nasties.
