The holidays are coming!! Time to break out the glitter, shake things up a bit, and bring out the inner meow in you! And what is more fun than a designer collaboration featuring a whimsical, uber luxe, cat?! This year, Shu Uemura has partnered with Karl Lagerfeld for the second time, to bring us a magical collection designed around the personification of Choupette, wittily renamed Shupette which is phonetically the same as the original to pander to our Asian sensibilities.
Choupette is a celebrity in her own right – a spoof twitter account named @ChoupettesDiary was operated by a NYC-based fashion writer in 2012 which promptly catapulted the feline to stardom. The cool cat even has her own book titled Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat. And for this launch, Shu Uemura has dedicated a special site named La Maison de Shupette.
Shupette’s collection is a jaw-dropping 19-piece makeup and skincare collection (only a small handful pictured above)! The main attraction for many, would likely be the large eyeshadow and lip palette, aptly named Shupette Has-It-All Eye & Lip Palette.
This contains 8 full-sized eyeshadows in varying shades of pink, blue, gold, burgundy, taupe and black… everything you’d ever need. Accompanying them are 6 lip colors encompassing cool and warm tones, light to bold shades. The palette comes with a transparent cover with tiny paw prints across it, a dual-ended sponge-tip brush and a dual-ended synthetic bristle lip brush. It is also lovingly encased in a furry white pouch with those blue gem-like eyes and cat ears… super cute!
I sometimes get overwhelmed with large palettes, and have problems mixing and matching my shades. Therefore, I like to break things down into more manageable quads or trios. In this case, 2 distinct quads immediately presented themselves in my mind.
The 4 shades on the left of the palette are what I think of as the cool-toned quad. And here are the swatches:
In clockwise direction from top left, the shades are:
And on the right of the palette resides what I think of as the warmer-toned quad:

The shades are:
As a color lover, I was slightly disappointed by the varying texture and pigmentation across the 8 shades, with the pink and Shupette Blue amongst the weakest. The 2 standout shades in my opinion are the taupe and burgundy brown, and I suspect these 2 shades will be reached for most frequently by most people. I did wish there were a couple of shimmer / glitter shades in this palette as was the case in last year’s (reviewed here). However, Shu Uemura has also designed a set of 3 loose powder glitters which accompany this palette marvelously (separate review coming up shortly)! I found myself reaching for just a dab of one of those glitters in every one of my eye looks these days!
And here are a few of the eye looks that I pulled together from the Shupette Has-It-All Eye & Lip Palette.
Using the left quad, I first applied the black shade as a darkening base from my lash line up to mid-lid. Then I dabbed Shupette Blue over it, taking it up to the crease. Thereafter I blended along the crease using the pale grey. Finally, I added a dab of platinum glitter over the middle of my lid for those sparkles.
And using the right quad, I first applied the light copper all over the lid, followed by the burgundy brown on the outer v. Thereafter, I have no idea what possessed me, but I tried to apply the pink on my crease! And finally added just a dash of pale gold on my inner eye corner. Finished with a dab of gold glitter on the middle of the lid.
And finally, in 1 of my saner moments, I just did a very simply, girly look! Pale gold all over the lid, pink just along my lash line up to the fold, smoking out with the burgundy brown. And copper along the lower lash line. Love this look! For the lips, I used a combination of shades from the 6 lip selection on the palette!
And the corresponding swatches are:
All the lip colors are highly glossy, and corresponding to the quads above these lip colors, the 3 on the left are cooler-toned, whilst the 3 on the right are warmer-toned. Within each half set lies a pink, a red, and a pale nude. They are all very creamy, and the pigmentation varies from sheer (in the case of the pale pink 3rd from the left), and very pigmented (in the case of the deep red 2nd from the left). They felt very comfortable on my lips, and did not stray. It is fun to play with a lip color palette as you can mix and match your own lip color (ombre lips watch out!) as I had done in the LOTD above!
