I am a big fan of Shu Uemura lipsticks as they have always been so kind on my lips regardless of the formula, so naturally I was intrigued by their new Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte. If there is anybody who can make a non-drying matte lipstick, it would be Shu Uemura!
Boldly declaring their latest lipstick as the “comfort matte you dare to wear everyday”, Shu Uemura has perfected my matte lipstick dream. The Rouge Unlimited Supreme Mattes go on smoothly (I wouldn’t dare venture so far as to say it glides, but it definitely goes on far more easily than any other mattes I own!), and actually feels moisturizing on the lips. It does not have as much slip as the Rouge Unlimited Central formula [read here], but it does not leave my lips feeling parched and emphasize the lines on my lips. At the same time, these Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte lipsticks are intensely pigmented and have a flattering soft matte finish. The wear time is as good as you may imagine – at least 6 hours including constant sipping and eating.
There are 24 shades to choose from, and I have swatched all of them on my arm for your viewing pleasure!
As you can see, the colors are all very saturated, and all the swatches are single swipes. The pigments are true, the pale pinks don’t have too much white chalkiness to them, and the warm oranges are tuned to flatter our Asian skintone.
For this launch, Shu Uemura has partnered with Pony, who has in turn selected 4 “hot” shades:
I picked out 4 shades for myself, and here are some lip swatches:
I really loved all the shades that I have, and I also really enjoy the ability to create a trendy ombre effect as I had done for CR344 and RD156 above. I first concentrated the color on the center of my lips by swiping the lipstick bullet directly, then feathered it out using a brush (or finger) to the edge of my lip. For PK375 and WN266, I applied the lipsticks directly from the bullet across my entire lip for a fuller bolder look. Even blotted down, these Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte lipsticks last a long time.
These are all permanent and out in counters now. Did any of the shades catch your eye?
