Happy New Year 2020 everybody!! It feels surreal to be in a whole new decade, and there is no better way to kick things off and get into the swing of the upcoming Lunar New Year than with a Flaming Red Collection of lipsticks from Shu Uemura!
Shu Uemura completely revamped its popular lipstick range last year. The new Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited line features a new sleek angular tube with a deep black plexiglass design. Expanding on its previous lipstick offering, Shu Uemura now has a staggering 155 colours in 6 different textures. Choose from the classic creamy formula, matte or shine finishes, and sheer or amplified intensities. There is something for everybody, any occassion!
The latest addition to the family is the Rouge Unlimited Amplified, which has a saturated color payoff unlike any other lipsticks in the market. This is also available in Amplified Matte finish that still manages to feel creamy and comfortable on the lips in true Shu Uemura fashion. I was able to swatch 6 shades below for you, 3 amplified (codes starting with “A”), and 3 mattes (codes starting with “M”).
To celebrate Spring 2020, Shu Uemura has released a special Flaming Reds Collection. These come dressed in a limited edition red plexiglass packaging (and red exterior carton box too) as shown in the opening feature image above. There are 13 lipsticks in total, featuring the iconic RD163 which is a neutral-toned red to suit most Asian complexions and OR570 which is an auspicious orange-red. These 2 shades are available in amplified, matte, and lacquer shine finishes. There is a brand new, never-seen-before shimmering glitter against a matte background formula, as well as a unique holographic finish. Unfortunately, I did not receive any of the holos, but I did receive a bunch of RD163 and OR 570 in different finishes including the glitter, so you can compare the differences:
I have been a fan of Shu Uemura lipsticks for well over a decade now, and these Rouge Unlimited are as good if not even better than before! I love their smooth creamy textures that make them a dream to apply, stay comfortable on the lips and yet not too much slip as to wear off at the slightest touch. The amplified lipsticks are more obvious when they wear off, but generally I think the wear time is consistent across the range (except of the shines) which is all day until removed. I was expecting to find the new glitter lipsticks to irritate my lips, but surprisingly they are imperceptible on the lips, and do not feel gritty in the least! Here is a full makeup look featuring Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Glitter Matte OR570 on my lips.
The Flaming Reds collection also consists of 2 Magic Metallic Lip Liners which I do not have, but feel reminiscent of the Yazbukey ones [see here]. There are also some basic items such as the Sublime Cleansing Oil, Hard9 Brow Pencil and Petal55 brush dressed in the limited edition red design. Everything is out since 6 January, so pop by your nearest Shu Uemura counter / boutique and check them out!
