This morning as I was driving to work, I caught my husband staring at me out of the corner of my eye. I kept quiet just to see how long he could keep it up… as it turned out, quite long! Finally, I asked him what’s up, and he said he was just admiring how juicy my lips looked this morning! What an interesting way to start the day as I had this very post lined up for today!
Juicy lips are always attractive, and the brighter and bolder the color the more eye-catching they are. My quest for shiny, vibrant lip color reached a new high this month with the launch of the new Shu Uemura Laque Supreme!
Inspired by the high-shine finish of Japanese lacquer ware, the new Shu Uemura Laque Supreme combines intense color with a glossy finish to give us the perfect statement pout. A cross between lip stains and glosses, the Laque Supremes do not dry down completely like lip stains nor do they leave my lips feeling parched. The water-enriched formula feels light and fresh on my lips all day. On the other hand, they are more opaque than glosses and have the ability to last throughout the day, surviving all day long of sipping. A special Shu red-dye complex which mixes red dye and red pigment has been added to every shade to create deep, intense colors.
The Laque Supreme comes in a sleek round tube that is reminiscent of last year’s Tint-in-Gelato [reviewed here] but in glossy black plastic rather than silver. It is a nod towards traditional black lacquerware and are incredibly sexy in my opinion. The top twists open to pull out the special curved applicator wand, which is shaped in a way that hugs the curves of my lips and allows me to reach the inner corners and outline my cupid’s bow without having to reach for a separate brush.
There are currently 15 shades, of which 5 are limited edition shades specially designed for the launch. The shades fall into 5 broad color families – reds, pinks, beiges, coral / orange, fuchsia.

I have been really enjoying these Shu Uemura Laque Supremes ever since I received them as they pack some beautiful bold colors, and are very comfortable to wear. I also did not need to retouch my lipstick much throughout the day which is great. Even after they are mostly worn off, they leave a stain on my lips. All the shades are surprisingly wearable, including WN01 which looked somewhat dark and goth straight out of the tube, but I managed to make it office-wearable by feathering it out with a (synthetic) eyeshadow brush! One thing to note though, different shades seem to have different levels of opacity… the lighter shades such as CR01 tend to be slightly sheerer than the darker shades. Check out the lip swatches below:
Shu Uemura Laque Supreme is available at all Shu Uemura counters and retail for SGD40 each.
