Does this year seem like it is passing exceptionally fast? I am still reeling from the fact that we are now well into Q2, and I’m not even quite sure I am completely done with 2014! I was going through my blog pipeline work list when I realized to my horror that I had never gotten around to reviewing these two songbirds that I received last year! Now that I’ve taken to favoring neutrals lately (a brief respite from colors I hope), I have really been enjoying Rouge Bunny Rouge Golden Rhea & Olive Violetear Long-Lasting Eyeshadow!
Both Golden Rhea & Olive Violetear are permanent offerings under Rouge Bunny Rouge’s When Birds Are Singing collection. Neither are new to the brand, but lovely staples to have in every makeup wardrobe. They are available as singles (EUR24 for 2.4gm) or refills (EUR17 for 2gm). I have these 2 in refills, and have popped them into a RBR Duo Eyeshadow Keeper (EUR14). I must mention that Rouge Bunny Rouge makes one of the best modular system which uses magnets to hold the refills in place – it is easy to pop the shades in and out of the pan by simply poking a needle into a tiny hole at the back of the eyeshadow keeper; and the refills stay in place and do not fall out.

Olive Violetear is a lovely cool-toned medium khaki-grey with a satin finish. It is fairly soft in terms of pigmentation which makes this useful as an all-over wash of color; and can also be built up easily for a smokey effect.
Golden Rhea is a light-medium champagne gold with an iridescent finish. This is much stronger in pigmentation and shows up instantly, partly due to the shine. As such, I really enjoy this for highlighting the inner corners of the eye.
And here are the swatches:
Both of these shades are incredibly smooth and buttery soft to the touch. They blend easelessly, and are really elegant shades for everyday wear.
And to show you how they look on me, here are 2 eye looks that I created:
In the look above, I wore Olive Violetear along my lash line and blended upwards to the crease. Thereafter, I gently dabbed on Golden Rhea to the center of my lid, blending upwards.
And for this 2nd one, I wore Golden Rhea all over the lid, and added Olive Violetear to the outer third of the lid for a bit of a smokey effect.
Both Rouge Bunny Rouge Golden Rhea & Olive Violetear Long-lasting Eyeshadows are incredibly beautiful and easy to work with for an elegant day look. However, from experience, these When Birds Are Singing eyeshadows do crease & fade on me after the 8 hour mark regardless of eye primer, which is a pity as there are some really lovely colors there. But if you don’t normally have any such problems, go ahead and indulge in some!
This post features products that were sent to me for my consideration. Regardless, all opinions expressed here are my own honest, unbiased views.
Such a beautiful combination and they look so stunning on you. Too bad about fading and creasing though. They are called long lasting. I don’t find them particularly long lasting on me (like Suqqu) but they don’t crease on my eye lids.
Suqqu lasts quite well on me actually…. but yes, those 2 make a beautiful pair and i’ll still continue to love them, just maybe i’ll wear them for shorter hours as Sunny suggested!
What I write above was misunderstood. Suqqu lasts like forever on me, these are not quiet there but still ok.
oh i see!!! yes that makes a lot more sense now… sorry for misunderstanding!
I know, just wear it and take them off before 8 hours. HAHAHAHA!!
GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE!! I have taken to wearing these on weekends or on days when I know I won’t be out for longer than 8 hours! LOL!
ooooh! I’m sorry to hear about the fade & crease! 🙁 I never have that issue when I wear the nars primer. that’s a bummer.
still, the shades are very becoming on you and the lovely finish on the Golden Rhea really brings a subtle shine to your lids.
Nice to hear from you again, Belly! Yes, I’ve always seen nothing but raves for RBR, and i can understand why… except my own damned lids are just not kind at all!
Oh nooooo they crease and fade on you? I don’t have this problem with this particular formula at all! That’s sad, because you wear them so well. I have Olive Violetear and I find it very lovely and unique!
Yes Sunny, I’ve seen your post on Olive Violetear! These When Birds Are Singing shadows just don’t sit very well on my lids, but I didn’t have any trouble at all with the Chronos palette, so there must be some chemistry voodoo there!
