Revisiting the New Origins Plantscription™ Anti-aging Skincare Collection

Aging is part of life on earth as we know it, but there’s really no good reason for it to show up prematurely. And it is this belief that has driven me in the pursuit for ever better anti-aging skincare. I have used and loved Origins’ Plantscription™ Anti-aging collection when it was launched in 2012, and was excited to see they have recently reformulated the range and added a brand new facial oil too!

Origins Plantscription™ Anti-aging collection is powered by the Anogeissus tree bark extract, known for its healing and antimicrobial properties. The Anogeissus tree bark extract has demonstrated an excellent ability to protect collagen and help boost the skin’s natural production of fibrillin, a glycoprotein that is necessary for firmer and more resilient skin.

The Plantscription™ Anti-aging Cleanser [SGD53 for 150ml] was my very first encounter with Origins products, and it was what has stolen my heart for the Plantscription™ range when it was first launched in Singapore 2 years ago. It dispenses out from the tube as a dense mousse and lathers up into a luxurious foam upon contact with water. It has a gentle floral scent that is pleasing and not overpowering. I love that it thoroughly cleanses my skin, removing every trace of impurities, without stripping my skin of its own essential oils. My skin feels clear and fresh, ready to take on the rest of the regimen.

One of my OCD tendencies is to always follow up after cleansing with a lotion from the same brand and range, and the Plantscription™ Anti-aging Treatment Lotion [SGD62 for 150ml] is the perfect companion to the Cleanser. It is a milky-lotion that soothes and rehydrates the skin after a thorough cleansing, and feels incredibly pampering. I love the light fluid texture that is easily absorbed by my skin, and my skin feels much more refreshed and plumped up afterwards.

Serums have become di rigor in my skincare routine, whether day or night, good or bad skin days… there will be at least one in my arsenal. They are the best way to give your skin the maximum benefits that any skincare range offers as they usually contain the most potent part of the formula and are lightweight.

The newly reformulated Plantscription™ Anti-aging Power Serum [SGD118 for 30ml, or SGD160 for 50ml] not only contains the Anogeissus that is the star of the collection, but also features a progressive biomimetic technology that “teaches” the skin how to utilize the ingredients contained in the serum to reduce lines, lift, firm and smoothen. The new ingredients include Pea Extract from Australia to help plump up the skin; Crithmum Maritimum also known as “retinol of the sea” to support skin thickness, collagen production, and soften the appearance of lines; Bamboo for extra moisture, anti-oxidants and it is anti-irritating; and Indian Commiphora helps to re-densify the skin.

Plantscription™ Anti-aging Power Serum comes in a pump dispenser, and is a lightweight fluid that is easily absorbed. The latter trait was the first improvement that I noticed upon using it, as I had used the previous Plantscription™ Anti-aging Serum in the past and found the newly reformulated version to be much more pleasant to use. Having used this  religiously day and night for the past 2 weeks, I noticed my skin looking more lifted and better toned than before.

Facial oils are increasingly popular even in our humid climate. For those in the know, they are the lazy girl’s go-to for instant deep hydration and treatment. It took me a long time to get around to embracing facial oils… I usually cleanse my face completely the moment I get home, which is usually 3-4 hours before I finally go to bed. As such, I dislike walking around with an oil slick on my face, or worse – having that oily feeling when I cuddle my little one to sleep. However, I was impressed by Plantscription™ Youth-renewing Face Oil’s fast absorbing and non-oily lightweight finish. It is so easy to use I find myself using more than the 2-3 drops that I really need.

Plantscription™ Youth-renewing Face Oil [SGD86 for 30ml] contains anogeissus, and tamanu for anti-inflammatory properties and to boost collagen. It also contains a blend of natural oil – sunflower seed oil & apricot kernel oil to repair lubricity and soften, argan oil for its barrier-protecting properties, and rose hip oil to calm and soothe skin. Lastly, squalene is a good source of fatty acids; yeast for lipids; barley and wheat germ extract for phytosphingolipids which are similar to ceramides in skin; coconut to help restore the lipid barrier; and evening primrose to ease bruising and speed wound healing.

The Plantscription™ range also consists of 3 moisturizers – the original Anti-aging Cream, a Powerful Lifting Cream, and the Plantscription™ Anti-aging Cream Oil-Free Cream with SPF25 which I have here. It is a relatively rich cream, which is more suitable for matured and dry skin. Regardless, it is oil-free, and once worked into the skin, it does not feel greasy at all. Instead, it feels very comforting, and decadent as this sounds, I’m really enjoying this on my neck as I’m in air-conditioned climes all day long.

Overall, I remain a fan of the Origins Plantscription™ Anti-aging collection. It is a good entry point for age prevention, and every item in the range is affordably priced. My favorites remain the cleanser and toner, which are suitable for any skin type and fits into any routine easily. The serum is perhaps one of the cheapest anti-aging serums out there, and is a good choice if you have never started on any anti-aging skincare. The face oil is also lovely for its texture and soothes over my dry patches instantly. Lastly, the oil-free cream is lovely for those with very dry skin or needs some day-time pampering.
