I am always looking for good pencil liners that go on smoothly and last on my oily hooded lids. If you read my 3-part marathon discussion on the various liners I’ve tried, you’d know that I’ve been through plenty. So in order for any new pencil liner to capture my interest, it has to be quite impressive…. Like the NEW Shu Uemura Drawing Pencils!
These Drawing Pencils are not to be confused with their predecessors (with the same name) as they are of a completely different formula! They come in a new creamy texture that glides easily (perhaps not as smoothly as either Marc Jacobs Highliners or By Terry Crayon Kohl Terrybly), but far smoother than the rests! Certainly smooth enough.
But what really drew me in, were the mesmerizing color choices. There are a whooping 21 shades, some dark defining shades and plenty of colorful hues. There are glitter shades (silver & gold), metallics, pearl finishes, and the standard mattes. Currently there are only 17 out on counters, with another 4 due to be released later in July. Here are the swatches:
Based on my observations while swatching these at the counter, most of the shades are quite pigmented. However, there are a couple that were slightly sheerer – most notably glitter gold, metallic purple, and glitter silver. But if the metallic pink is anything to go by, there are some crazy intense colors!
Most importantly to me, these new Shu Uemura Drawing Pencils are completely smudge- and budge-proof! For the first time, I can go all out and wing out a dual-liner look with crazy colors without having to turn to liquid! This is a momentous discovery for me as even the Marc Jacobs Highliners ended up fading away on my lower waterline.
These new Shu Uemura Drawing Pencils retail for SGD33 each, and are available at all counters now. They are permanent, so you may take your time to discover your ideal shades (I picked 1 up initially, and just added another 1 to my explosive pencil eyeliner collection!).
