It was only a year ago that Lancôme impressed me with their L’Absolu Rouge Definition lipsticks [read here], so I had a hard time wrapping my head around their newly revamped Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Collection. There are now 35 shades in 3 finishes to choose from, and I would like to show you 5 of them today.
Since she joined Lancôme as Creative Director, Lisa Eldridge has gone about to revolutionize the brand’s makeup line. For the L’Absolu Rouge Collection, she wanted to create a comprehensive range of lip color that contained extremely pure shades and to properly represent every color family. The 3 finishes are intended to give every woman the perfect look for every occasion – sheer for everyday easy-to-wear looks, cream for greater sophistication, and matte to make a bold statement.
Along with the reformulation, the packaging has also been completely redesigned. The sleek black tube features the Lancôme rose insignia on the top in gold and it clicks to unlock the lipstick contained within. The mechanism reminds me of the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet [see some here], but the dimensional feel of the rose gives the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge a little je ne sais quoi de fascinant.
I received 5 shades from across all 3 finishes. The matte has the strongest intensity of color and is full opaque, with a soft matte finish. In contrast, the sheers are buildable up to semi-opaque, and boast the greatest shine. The creams fall in between the two, with almost full opacity and a soft shine finish. I love that all of them have the perfect amount of slip in them to enable easy application without tugging my lips, and stayed on well.
Here are some lip swatches to give you an idea of how they wear:
The matte and creams outlasted all morning of coffee and bread, and even through most of lunch! The sheers have a greater level of shine and are buildable to full opacity. All of them are incredible, and easily some of my favourite lipsticks currently on rotation. Granted all the shades that I have here are bright poppy colors, which suits my aesthetics perfectly; but there are plenty of nudes and neutrals in the collection to choose from as well!
Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Collection are permanent and already available in stores, so pop by and try them out for yourself!
