As all beauty junkies know, a good cleansing routine to remove all the grime of the day is essential to maintaining beautiful, healthy skin. And as a time-strapped, multi-tasking mom, there is nothing I love better than a gentle yet effective cleansing oil. Lately, I’ve been loving not just 1, but 2 new bottles of Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleansing Oil!
Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleansing Oil is a multi-tasking oil-based cleanser that removes makeup (yes, even water-proof, stubborn makeup!) and cleanses the skin. There are 2 new variants that were recently released – Neutrogena Deep Clean Brightening Cleansing Oil and Neutrogena Deep Clean Hydrating Cleansing Oil.
Both versions of the Deep Clean Cleansing Oils come in a practical plastic bottle with an easy to use pump dispenser at the top. I find pump dispensers to be the best way to get oil cleansers out as they are minimal fuss, and prevents oil from slipping all over your hands and making a mess of the bottle. Not all pump dispensers are made the same though, and these Neutrogena ones allow you to easily get half-pumps out without squirting everywhere, in case you really only needed a tiny amount for spot cleansing.
For removing makeup and cleansing the skin, take 1-2 pumps of the cleansing oil in your palm and massage over dry skin. The Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleansing Oil has a lightweight texture that spreads over the skin easily, and once massaged, it turns into an emulsion and lifts away all the dirt and grime. Thereafter, simply wipe off with cotton pads or rinse off with water. I have been using both the Hydrating and Brightening variants interchangeably, and found no difference between their effectiveness. Both remove all my makeup easily in a matter of seconds.
To demonstrate this, I applied swatches of a high coverage foundation, concealer, matte long-lasting lipstick, waterproof liquid eyeliner with glitter, and waterproof mascara on my arm.
Thereafter I dropped 1 pumpful of the cleansing oil over the swatches:
And I massaged the oil over the makeup until everything has been dissolved by the cleansing oil before wiping off.
As you can see, both the Neutrogena Deep Clean Hydrating Cleansing Oil and Neutrogena Deep Clean Brightening Cleansing Oil were able to remove all the makeup, even the waterproof mascara and liquid liner completely, leaving no trace on my skin at all. I did have to work a bit on the waterproof items, and it may be tricky on the delicate eye area. My biggest concern is tugging the thin skin around the eye area too much, but it is not all that difficult if you allow the oil to soak in for a bit after massaging before rinsing off. Neither of the oils stung my eyes even when they accidentally seeped in, which could sometimes happen with other cleansers.
What I enjoyed most about using these cleansing oils was that they did not irritate my sensitive skin. In fact, I’ve been suffering from some bad eczema on my hands with dry irritated patches. So, I’ve been avoiding the usual soaps and detergents as much as possible, and instead I’ve been using these cleansing oils to remove makeup from my hands after application. Although this is not exactly what these oils are designed for, they worked fabulously and did not strip my over- stressed skin of its natural oils. The best part was they rinsed off cleanly without leaving any oily or greasy feel on my skin!
Both the cleansing oils are very similar and have almost identical ingredient lists. The only difference between them is that the Neutrogena Deep Clean Hydrating Cleansing Oil contains cucumber extract that helps hydrate skin and keep it soft. On the other hand, the Neutrogena Deep Clean Brightening Cleansing Oil contains mulberry extract, which is high in ascorbic acid and niacin, both ingredients work to inhibit the production of dark spots and keep skin clear.

I was initially apprehensive when I saw that both contained mineral oil as I had broken out in the past when using products with mineral oil. However, I have been using both Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleansing Oils daily for the past 2 weeks and my skin is free and clear of blemishes!
Both Neutrogena Deep Clean Brightening Cleansing Oil and Neutrogena Deep Clean Hydrating Cleansing Oil are available for sale at Guardian and Watsons stores in Singapore, and retail for SGD29.90 each (200ml).

Thanks for sharing! I saw an advertisement for these on the bus. Will have to try these out and see how they compare to my favourite cleansing oil by Biore 🙂
