Dreaming of vacations…and NARS China Seas

February 11, 2014

It’s barely February and already I’m dreaming of vacaayy…. Endless blue ocean stretching into the horizon, sipping mohjitos by the poolside… and watching the sunset into the horizon and that burst of red in the sky shortly after the sun disappears entirely.  Yes, that’s exactly the picture that comes to mind when I see NARS’ latest duo China Seas.

NARS China Seas

Left side of the duo is an iridescent medium turquoise with a frosted finish.  It is quite pigmented but can be sheered out with a bit more work.  With these sorts of bright frosted shades, I sometimes find that they go on a little patchy, but I did not have much problems with this.  It lasted me a good 8 hours before I started seeing some fading around my cheeky hidden eye-folds, which probably could be prevented by a primer.

Right side of the duo is a medium-dark eggplant with a warm base that sheers out around the edges with some brown tinges.  It has some pink shimmer and has a frosted finish.  This actually applies quite nicely, and is consistent in texture with the left side turquoise shade.  It also lasted me well into the 8th hour and counting.  However, I did experience some fallout with the shimmers, so a good primer is a must.

NARS China Seas is a Spring 2014 release and will be permanent.  It retails at SGD50 for 4gm of product.  Both shades are nicely pigmented, and have decent textures (nice for NARS!).  Though planning for a vacation on tiger airways is making my blood boil, just looking at this makes me feel blissed out again.

i haven’t had the chance to swatch Kauai yet, although i heard the texture is much better… I didn’t have any issues with the texture of China Seas… it felt like standard NARS quality to me. But in terms of color… I feel China Seas is so much more interesting! Very spring-summer appropriate!

  3. This is so beautiful, looks also lovely on you! I just ordered the other duo but after seeing this I might have to place another order soon 😉

Hi Sara, i think Kauai is the more popular duo, but I was only drawn to China Seas since I own plenty of gold & purples already! Temptalia rated this rather poorly, but I actually found it to be of typical NARS-standard!

Oh gosh what a beautiful colour combo and how pretty are these?? <3

I don’t own any NARS products yet, do you think it’s really worth the price or do you think other cheaper shadows do the same thing?

Hey Jules, this is my 2nd NARS duo ever, and was drawn to it because of the unique color combination. Temptalia lists some dupes, but I don’t own any blue quite this turqouise myself. Ultimately, it depends on your preferences and budget constrains!
