It seems like everybody is going bananas over the new NARS Audacious Lipsticks! And I couldn’t understand why… I mean, staring at the rows and rows of new lipsticks (there are 40 of them!)… they all looked the same to me. Seriously, my eye can tell maybe 4 shades apart… and then the rests all look like some variation of those 4. There are pinks, reds, oranges, browns. And a whole spectrum in between. Overflowing lipstick drawer at home was telling me to walk away. But then, just for the heck of it, I reached right in the middle of them all and pulled one out to test. And my mind was blown away! #truestory
By now you must have already seen and heard about the new sleek packaging. Unlike the older lipsticks, these come in a smooth plastic that has some heft, and do not turn rubbery and gross over time. The caps are magnetized, and fall in place nicely with a satisfactory click. I must point out though that the magnets are rather powerful, it actually picked up a bunch of loose coins lying around on my vanity, so do keep your credit cards safely away!
The lipstick itself is a work of genius. It goes on smoothly without clinging to lines or any dry flakes, but is not so overly emollient that it slips. The color pigmentation is amazing, 1 swipe and you get full coverage, beautiful color! And the finish is satin, neither completely matte nor shiny. It also lasts well throughout the day, fading gently to a stain. Overall, everything I want in a lipstick, except perhaps not as moisturizing as I’d like. In fact, the one that came home with me, Grace, tended to be just slightly drying.
Grace is described as a warm pinky-coral (see what I mean about confusing variations of the same colors??), but on me, it is more of a reddened pink. Not very much coral against my skin tone, and leans towards cool. It is a very versatile color that works with a variety of skin tones and eye makeup. In fact, the day I tested this in the store, I was wearing some very bold eye makeup with purples and pinks (see here). I also fell in love with the name… Grace is my sister’s name, and it reminds me of the ever graceful Grace Kelly… Grace represent undeserved, unmerited favor… and we all need some of that in our lives!
It is such a beautiful shade on you Linda. And yes we do need grace in our lives 🙂 I haven’t had the time to visit the NARS counter but it seems like I have a lot of catching up to do.
Thank you Jacqueline! We should check stuff out tog someday! :*
Hi Linda, this shade looks great on you! I’ve been reading lots about these Audacious lipsticks but haven’t checked them out in person. Good thing they’re permanent 🙂
Thanks Lily! Yeah, that’s the prob i have too… permanent so no hurry to check out… and then it never happens! ;P
I have a few of these on my wishlist-I told myself I would wait til I went home at Xmas and try a few shades but I caved and ordered one from Selfridges a couple of days ago! Grace is one of the shades on my list!

Hi Stacey, you definitely need Grace! Can’t wait to see it on you! xx
Great review! I thought it was so dark upon seeing it but when you applied it, it was sooo pretty. Its not too dark and not too light. Its perfect! A must have.
yes! somehow all the shades look the same, and all so bold… but in reality they are very wearable!
Hey Linda, thanks for the review! The color looks amazing, but I have pretty much made up my mind about not getting anything from this line. My lips aren’t dry, but I refuse to wear most lipsticks that aren’t hydrating. If it’s a matte, I’d be OK with it not being hydrating. A cream lipstick? There are too many cream lipsticks out there that are hydrating for me to want to tolerate this formula.
Aww… you need to try 1 at least! I think Grace is one of a handful that are not so moisturizing. It’s not DRY though like an actual matte lipstick would be. Let’s just say it wears on my lips the way most TF lip colors do. How about that?
Oh wow! Grace looks amazing on your lips! I’m having a lot of trouble deciding which colours to get, but I dont want to wreck my lips and try out a whole bunch of them at the counter. I do have my eye on one of the reds, Carmen maybe.
IKR!! I only had the patience to swatch 2 at the counter… the first was way too cool fuchsia (which I already own several of) and Grace.
