Just as I’m missing a good purple polish for this holiday 2014, NARS turned out something quite beautiful and unexpected.
NARS Algonquin Nail Polish is part of the Laced With Edge Holiday 2014 Collection. It is a cool silvery lilac with multi-hued shimmers. I see pink, purple, blue, green…… As a result of the silvery sheen to the polish, Algonquin has a dual-chrome cast to it and is very difficult to photograph accurately.
Although stunning in the bottle, Algonquin is not an easy one to love. The formula is thick and goopy, and yet it applied with a translucency that takes up to 3 coats to be opaque (sometimes I almost felt like it could do with 4!). At the same time, this did not dry as quickly as I liked, and for all the work, it did not last at all. I applied my polish at night (which is the only time I have to do such stuff), and by the next morning at the first decent light to take a shot, it has already worn off at the edges. And by the end of the 2nd day, it has chipped in so many places I needed to take it all off.
A little disappointing for an otherwise stunning, complex shade. But perhaps Algonquin would last longer on someone who is much gentler on her nails?
