Valentines’ Day is fast approaching, whether you have a hot date planned or not, there’s no reason not to get into the mood for love. 😉 Nothing sets the pace better than the right fragrance, and here are 2 from Estee Lauder to get you from the date late into the night!
Estee Lauder Modern Muse has seen several iterations [see here and here], all of them unique and sufficiently differentiated to stand alone, yet retaining that “dual-impression” fragrance structure that makes this line so distinctive. Estee Lauder Modern Muse Nuit is the latest limited edition flanker that was released close to Christmas in Singapore, though you may still have some luck finding it in stores. This is possibly by favourite Modern Muse, and it is every bit as sultry and glamorous as it looks!
Modern Muse Nuit starts out with a tart burst of mandarins and cassis. A woody floral accord soon emerges, comprising of jasmine absolute and jasmine sambac, with heliotrope giving a creamy touch and chamomile providing a touch of warm exoticism. I was thrilled to find some of my favourite base notes in the mix – sandalwood, patchouli and amber. Tonka beans, vanilla and musk gives Modern Muse Nuit a lush richness that feels perfectly at home on my skin.
In perfect counterpoint, Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss is crisper, sharper on the senses, and exudes an urban femininity. From the glossy red bottle to the reference to red lipstick, Le Rouge Gloss may be best described as “vinyl”. There is a dry powder-iness that immediately draws my mind to lipsticks, and it is the effect of black cherry and pink pepper. Both rose and jasmine are present, as a faint memory of the floral thread that runs through the Modern Muse line. However, these are not taken to their full lushness, but tampered by leathery Styrax and herbal labdanum. Estee Lauder has chosen to work with bio vanillin, which adds a resinous dimension to the otherwise gourmand vanilla.
Both Modern Muse Nuit and Le Rouge Gloss have remarkable longevity and sillage, so I recommend the tiniest of spritzes at strategic spots. I prefer Nuit all day and well into the night, but if I were out partying on in a crowded place where I want to standout amongst the crowd I would choose Le Rouge Gloss. There is something quite special about the latter, and I recommend you check both of them out!
