There is nothing that spells poolside chic like a crisp white outfit, and Marc Jacobs has ensured the desirability of his Summer 2017 makeup collection by dressing them up in shiny enamel-like white casings. And to further enhance the summer vibes, the pieces not only smell of coconuts, they are actually formulated with coconut extracts for skin-loving properties!
Marc Jacobs first released the Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Primer earlier in the spring, but as usual, we are just getting it now here in Singapore. It is a hydrating makeup base that is great for dehydrated – dry skin types, and is moisturizing without leaving any trace of heaviness nor stickiness. Formulated with 5 different forms of coconut, including cold-pressed coconut water, juice and pulp; it forms a natural, vitamin-rich barrier between skin and makeup. Coconut is also rich in polysaccharides that promotes a healthy skin structure, allowing skin to retain moisture, repair and renew. The Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Primer leaves a subtle dewy shine to my skin without being overly much, and blends in well with my makeup to leave a healthy luminosity. Most dewy primers cause my makeup to slip, but I was pleased to find this Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Primer actually extends the wear time of my makeup!
To complement the primer, Marc Jacobs has now launched a brand new Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter. Formulated with the same skin-loving coconut ingredients, you’d be tempted to apply it all over the face. And it so happens, the lightweight fluid texture and easily blendable nature of this highlighter makes it really suitable for mixing in with your favourite foundation or moisturizer for a gorgeous sun-kissed glow! All you need is a tiny pearl-sized amount… I like to apply it on my cheek bones underneath my makeup for a more natural soft contouring, and I love that it dries quickly and doesn’t budge when I’m applying my liquid foundation afterwards. For a stronger look, I take a tiny amount on the back of my hand and then sheer it out with a finger before tapping directly on top of my makeup. I do have to work fast though because it sets very quickly!
No summer collection would be complete without a bronzer (or two…), and Marc Jacobs O!mega Bronze Perfect Tan is tan-tastic! The huge palette comes with a whopping 25gm of product, and the rippled surface design is reminiscent of Chanel’s [see here]. This Marc Jacobs rendition is matte, and available in 2 shades – Tantastic as shown above, and a darker Tantric. Tantastic is surprisingly neutral in tone, not too orange nor too grey, great after a bit of sun. It has the perfect amount of pigmentation / sheerness to be applied all over, and still enough for contouring.
I have no lack of big fluffy powder brushes and am seldom tempted by synthetic ones, but I was frankly blown away by this Marc Jacobs The Bronze Bronzer Brush. It is big and fluffy with a domed head, and so-impossibly soft it puts some of my squirrel brushes to shame! It picks up just the right amount of powder for an airy flawless application, and is big enough for use on the décolletage, shoulders and even legs…. it’s pool season!
Here is a full makeup look, featuring the Marc Jacobs Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Primer as an allover base. Because I was heading out to a full day at the office, I applied Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter on the tops of my cheek bones under my foundation so the glow is much more subtle (and my camera too tends to diffuse shine). Finally, I applied Marc Jacobs O!mega Bronze Perfect Tan in Tan Tastic under the cheek bones, jawline and sides of the face to sculpt. I really love the luminous, sculpted look this combination created!

This post featured products that have been generously provided for my consideration. Regardless, all opinions expressed here are my own honest, unbiased views.
I love the white packaging. I went to swatch these at Sephora the other day, and the bronzer is actually really nice. Didn’t pick up anything though.
Such a beautiful collection that really has put MJ at the forefront I feel! The packaging is just stunning! Kelly xx

Thank you Kedidja dear!! That’s a new Givenchy Rouge Interdit Satin shade! Those fuchsias really do brighten up the face! 😉 That brush is sooooo soft!! You should get Dew Drops while you can too, it’s gorgeous!
Oh darling you look stunning!
You are so right about the “act quick” cause when it sets it sets!
I passed on the brush and bronzer but to be honest they are still in my mind..
Thanks for your beautiful review!

Tbh, the Chanel bronzer has been my go-to lately. But this brush is other-worldly!! Especially for a synthetic brush!
You look stunning, Linda! The very personification of summer 🙂 I just bought the Dew Drops the other day and love the subtle, real-skin glow that it gives me. I love highlighters, but especially during the day, I want something that just heightens my cheekbones and brings light to my eyes without looking artificial. And, as a woman in her seventh decade, I greatly appreciate that it doesn’t exaggerate any dry patches or rough texture.
Hi Eileen!! Missed hearing from you! I love your insightful comments about making makeup work for matured skin types! I wear my liquid highlighters under makeup precisely as you say, to bring light to the face without looking fake. Pores and rough patches are so real to me too!
I’m so happy you like this collection too! It’s launched some months now here and I’ve been loving it! I skipped the brush because I don’t need it but OMG, was I impressed! Dew drops is one of my favourite highlighters these days and the Coconut mist is an everyday essential!! 🙂
YESS!!! I’m sooo glad it finally got here!! Like omg everything is so late this year!! Obsessed with Dew Drops myself, now i understand the hype!
