How to Rock Yellow Simpsons Nails to the Office Without Looking D’oh!

September 29, 2014

Good morning chicken! I have something really fun to show you today, that is bound to chase those blues away, and put some cheery sunshine on your fingertips for the rest of the week! I mean literally have on your fingertips these bright yellow The Simpsons nail stickers from MAC!

America’s most loved comic family, The Simpsons have been airing for 25 whopping years, and Marge doesn’t look a day over 30. The secret to her eternal youthfulness? A hopeful heart, and the confidence to know she is right all the time. She even has the moral strength to stick it to then-First Lady Barbara Bush for calling her family “the dumbest thing she ever saw”. If you’re not already a fan of the series, it’s not too late to start. The Simpsons turns very real everyday occurrences into comedy moments, tongue-in-cheek interpretations of current affairs, and through sheer stupidity, it always ends in happily ever after.

“There has to be more to life than just what we see, everyone needs something to believe in.”

– Marge Simpson

So when MAC introduced a whole limited edition collection celebrating The Simpsons’ 25th anniversary, I had to get me some. And what is more unique than these beautiful nail stickers?! Each packet comes with 2 strips, each strip with 8 differently sized stickers, so there should be sufficient to fit all your nails. What I loved about these nail stickers is that they are really quite long, and if you use them prudently, you can get more than 1 set of nails done with these. Of course, it means cutting up the designs, and you do have to do it thoughtfully to prevent getting all hair and no face.

The design and quality of these nail stickers deserve some mention at this point. Unlike the others that I’ve used in the past (for example Dior’s Manucure Nail Polish & Sticker Duo), these are pre-cut as individual “nails” instead of all laid out on a single sheet of backing from which you’d have to peel out to use. What this means is you can easily overlay each sticker over your nail in order to determine which fits best first, before cutting it out from the strip at the base. After which, you can still cut and reshape with a nail file to your ideal shape and size before finally removing the backing and then actually using it. Each sticker also comes with a transparent plastic sheet on top which you’d have to remove before using. The nail wrap itself is quite thin, not plastic-y as I had initially thought, and therefore moulds very well to all the curves of my nails. No irritating bubbles and creases that just wouldn’t lie flat!

But back to the original point of this post… cute as they may be, how on earth do you wear these nail stickers (because face it, we’re mostly average Ruths leading very normal lives) without looking totally d’oh??? Much as I love The Simpsons, I believe there is a line between dressing up for Comic-con and for the office.

So what I did was cut them up and use the stickers as nail accents! Because each sticker is so intricately drawn, I kept most things minimalistic, just yellow and white. I started with the idea of using them as French tips, but since my nails are so tiny to begin with, I realized I wouldn’t be able to see much of the design, so I made it color-blocked instead! Still too bold for you? Then cut down the accessories and skip the prints.  And no, you don’t have to wear yellow to match!

Love how you did it! I hate nail sticker stuff. Can never get them to work so I couldn’t be bothered. LOL!

I know… stickers get terribly messy usually… but these are relatively easy! Alternatively, just bring them to your manicurist and have them fix it on for you!

  3. I love your interpretation of Simpson’s nails. I didn’t get them because I thought I wouldn’t have an occasion to wear them but now that I see this I might reconsider 😉
