I had a late start to the MAC x The Simpsons Collection, and as I type this, the Brooke Shields collection has already been released (and some sold-out). As usual, chasing MAC limited edition capsule collections can send your head spinning, but I can’t resist showing you the 2 other items that I picked up for the love of that yellow iconic family (I also picked up the nail stickers which I had reviewed here).
There were 2 eyeshadow quads in the collection – The Trillion Dollar Look Quad was a green & yellow themed palette which did not draw me as much as the other, Marge’s Extra Ingredients Quad.
MAC x The Simpsons Marge’s Extra Ingredients Quad looks like it might be just the eyeshadow palette the lady herself reaches for when she is looking to emphasize those innocuous eyes of hers. It comprises of 4 cool-toned shades that complement each other beautifully.
The shades, from left to right, are:
All the shades are intensely pigmented, and it shows up effortlessly. Great for a dramatic look, but the shades lend themselves well to an effortless day-time look. They are also made with a lovely soft texture that applies smoothly and are easy to blend.
I’ve been wearing mostly muted shades lately so it was a refreshing change of pace to reach for some vivid colors.
For the eye look above, I used a very light hand with all of the shades. First I applied Harpooned Heart over the entire lid, then I layered Sexy PB&J from inner corner to mid-lid. Thereafter, I applied Beehive Blue to the outer half of the lid. Finished with Vivacious Vacuum Cleaner Bag on the outer V. Lastly, I added a dab of Harpooned Heart over the middle of the lid for more pop. As this was a day-time look, I kept the lower lid relatively clean and fuss-free, only lining the outer third to balance out the darker outer edge.
I didn’t pick up any of the blushes as they were all soldout by the time I got myself to a counter, and I am full-up on blushes anyway. Instead I picked up 1 of the MAC x The Simpsons Tinted Lipglass in Nacho Cheese Explosion, because who doesn’t like nachos with cheese?!
But much as I love yellow food on my lips, I wasn’t quite sure that I wanted to wear yellow on my lips. Not until the counter manager showed me the actual potential of this particular lip glass.
When layered over a bright lip color, Nacho Cheese Explosion tones down the red and turns it into a completely different color! It warmed up a bright fuchsia like the YSL Rouge Volupte 34 Rose Asarine (reviewed here), and turned it into a milky pink! It really is a fun thing to play with, and housed in a niftly little palm-sized tube with Marge’s face on it… what’s not to love really?!
So there you have it, my picks from the MAC x The Simpsons collection! I know sometimes when you feel like you have matured into the ranks of Dior, Chanel, SUQQU, etc… MAC feels like a step back. Animated characters lend it even less creed. But sometimes in life, we need to take ourselves less seriously, and be bold enough to whip out something cute from our designer purses. I personally feel that MAC has upgraded itself tremendously, with great quality and thoughtful artistry behind each of its capsule collections. The only problem is getting hold of them! I’m sorry this review came out so late, but if you are a fan like me, i’m sure there are still ways to get hold of these pieces… feel free give me a shout out if you need help!
Oooh I have a few pieces from this collection (which are on the post from US since a month, but this is another story) but I haven’t ever thought about the yellow gloss. This might still be available here, have to check it out after you show your lovely lips here and how it can be worn.
Xox
oh no…. i hate it!!! My Gucci are stuck in a warehouse in Oregon as we speak! But at least it’s there, and not lost in Internet e-commerce. Can’t wait to see what you picked!
The quad looks really good, and lol at Nacho Cheese, so much fun! I am going to check that out simply because how much fun would it be to whip it out in public and slather onto lip? XD
IKR!!! Voila! See yellow lip thing with blue hair on it?!?! LOL!!!
Haha I did think it’s a fun collection, but there wasn’t a must-have for me (by now the bars are HIGH)! I really liked the nail art you did with the stickers, and the quad seems like fun!
i know… it’s not everybody’s cup of tea… but it sure is fun!!
