MAC Prep + Prime CC Colour Correct

I have a soft spot for MAC’s Prep + Prime range of products as this was the very first makeup primer I used, and subsequently, the very first BB cream!  And so, when MAC launched a new range of CC creams, I was excited to try and of course, compare with previous iterations of the Prep + Prime creams.

The new MAC Prep + Prime CC Colour Correct, just like all its predecessors, increases luminosity and inhibits oily shine to help makeup last all day.  Further, it evens out skin tone with 4 colour correcting shades – Adjust, Illuminate, Neutralize, and Recharge.  It also contains moisturizing properties to keep skin fresh and hydrated throughout the day.  The Prep + Prime CC is formulated with broad spectrum SPF30 to protect the skin from UVA/UVB rays.

The swatches, from left to right, are:

• Adjust – a peach beige shade that is closest to the current Prep + Prime BB, but as with all these Prep + Prime CCs, is a thinner formula that is not intended to provide coverage but to brighten up medium skin tones and even out areas with deeper patchiness issues.
• Neutralize – a yellow shade that corrects for skin with too much pink, especially those with rosacea or some ruddiness around the cheeks.  It could also be used under the eye area to hold primer and correct for dark eye shadows.
• Illuminate – a lavender shade that brightens up dull skin, particularly useful for those of us with yellow-based skin tones.  In contrast with YSL’s CC cream in Lavender (reviewed here), MAC’s rendition is much sheerer and does not leave my skin looking 2-3 shades fairer, nor does it turn me ashy.
• Recharge – an apricot shade that is best suited for NC/NW50 skin types, to bring greater radiance without turning ashy.  On first sight, it seems a tad orange, but when sheered out, it leaves more of a golden tanned look.

Out of all the recent batch of CC creams that have come to market, I found the MAC Prep + Prime CC Colour Correct to be my favorite.  The texture is similar to previous Prep + Prime products that I’ve tried, in fact it feels slightly lighter if memory does not fail me.  It is sheer, and allows foundation to go over nicely without streaking or becoming too thick.  As a primer, it holds my makeup well, keeping me shine free throughout the day.
