December 26, 2015

I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas with your loved ones, and we are days away till the big New Year’s Eve party!  If you’re like me, already exhausted and your skin is showing signs of wear, you may be happy to know that getting things back to tip-top shape is only going to take you a few minutes!  Even if you aren’t facing the pressures of having to look your best in front of a large crowd, these beauty treats are good to have on hand for regular maintenance and emergencies.

Luxury Rejuvenation Masks

Before I jump into the discussion proper today, I would like to thank all of you for your unceasing support this entire year.  It’s been an amazing year for me, lots of changes with the work situation and here on the blog.  I made the decision to buy much less this year and try to make a dent on my own stash for a change, and while it was hard initially, I think I did change my impulsive buying habits quite a bit towards the end.  Being jobless without a stable income yet facing an ever-increasing mortgage + childcare expense bill changed my spending habits dramatically.  Part of this was also due to the traction I was starting to get from PRs, to the point where it is getting hard to keep up.

It is always a challenge working with PRs, I’ve had my fair share of griefs and annoyances, but I choose not to burden you with it.  Instead, I choose to rejoice in my blessings, and have really enjoyed working with some of the best people in the industry.  Of course, my responsibilities and sole priority always remain rooted in ensuring a high degree of integrity with my blog readers.  Whenever I’m writing a sponsored post, I take twice as long and a very critical eye to everything.  I never, ever, put something out there that I don’t believe to be true, and I have turned away paid work more than once because the products simply failed to meet my standards.

It is my sincere wish to be able to continue bringing you the most up-to-date reviews on the things that matter, and to remain honest and true with my reviews.  If there is ever any question on any matter, please do not hesitate to leave me a note in the comment section anywhere in the blog, or email or even hop on over to Instagram and DM me there.  I may not always reply right away, but rest assured I always see your comments!  For those of you who have been staying with me all these years, I know who you are, and I thank God for every one of you! xoxo!

Now, let’s turn to the 5 fabulous masks that I have to show you today!

Chanel Sublimage MasqueEvery once in a while, my skin gets completely stressed out and nothing works.  And this often happens around the festive season as I sleep less, drink more and eat poorly.  In such situations, Chanel Sublimage Masque is my skin’s best friend!

Chanel Sublimage Masque

Central to this product, as with everything else in Chanel’s Sublimage collection, is the Vanilla Planifolia PFA, a refined version of the extract using a purification technology exclusive to Chanel, that is easily absorbed and highly effective at targeting the key signs of aging.  There is also a cocktail of skin-loving plant-based ingredients such as Jojoba Seed Oil, Camellia Kissi Seed Oil, Argan Oil, and Shea Butter.

This is a creamy leave-on mask that has a silky texture and a luxurious soothing scent that makes me feel pampered and well-taken care of.  I usually gently massage a generous layer over my entire face (except for eyes) immediately after cleansing and toning, and then leave it on for about 20 minutes.  Thereafter, I tissue off the excess, and go to sleep.  The next day, I would wake up to plumper skin and more radiant skin!  I was dealing with a bout of allergic reaction whilst I was traveling in Hong Kong last month, and my skin was red, sore, bumpy and crackling.  I took to applying it every morning and evening, and even in between when I got a chance to refresh my makeup before dinner… and this completely saved my skin!  I know the price tag is put-offish, and there are lots of cynics who will look at the ingredients and walk away.  But if you have easily sensitised skin, and or are looking for a fuss-free anti-aging product with fast results, you need to try this!

La Mer The Intensive Revitalizing Mask

I am a La Mer die-hard devotee, and when they launched La Mer The Intensive Revitalising Mask* last year, I was one of the first to give it a try.  Perhaps I wasn’t using it right, but my initial trials did not leave me wow-ed.  Instead, it left my skin red and patchy.  But I gave it a go again recently, after my skin is fully healed and healthy, and it gave me a burst of vitality that made me rethink things.

La Mer The Intensive Revitalizing Mask is a lightweight creamy leave-on mask that promises to plump up the skin and prevent free radical damage.  It is designed to be applied after cleansing and toning, leave on for just 8 minutes and tissue off.  Thereafter, follow up with your choice of serums and moisturisers as needed.

In addition to the usual Miracle Broth that helps promote healing, La Mer has added a new Vitality Ferment to boost hydration to the skin, leaving it looking visibly plumper in just 8 minutes.  In addition, a new Purifying Ferment is filled with antioxidants to help neutralise free radicals and protect the skin from premature aging.

For me, this is a very quick, instant plumping treat that I would reach for to prep my skin just before the next big party.  It is also great as a regular maintenance treat as it does not need to be rinsed off and I can just go to sleep right afterwards.

Radical Skincare Instant Revitalizing Mask

For those whose concerns are more to do with dullness, and especially if you have oily skin problems, you should check out Radical Skincare Instant Revitalising Mask*.  This is quite a novelty in and of itself, as it pops and fizzles like champagne, and takes only 3-5 minutes!

Radical Skincare’s The Instant Revitalizing Mask comes in a bottle with a pump dispenser that twists up to reveal the nozzle.  It takes about 2 pumps of this light fluid to cover my entire face, and is meant to be applied to cleaned, dry skin.  Immediately after it is applied, it starts to bubble up (as you can see from the swatch on the right, versus the freshly pumped texture on the left) and gives a slight fizzing sensation to the skin.

Radical Skincare Instant Revitalizing Mask ingredients

There are some really high tech ingredients in here – Tropaeolum Majus Extract has strengthening and anti-inflammatory properties, and helps to repair the skin.  Sodium PCA helps to maintain the moisture balance in the skin; Retinyl Palmitate helps to exfoliate and regenerate new cells; Ascorbyl Palmitate is an effective antioxidant; and Tocopherol promotes scar healing.  And as with all Radical Skincare products, the Trylacel cocktail delivers an effective dose of antioxidants to the skin.

This is an effective and fast treatment to brighten the skin, even out skin tone and smoothen… making it perfect for a pre-party prep.  I do, however, have to caution those who have known sensitivities to retinol.  As far as I can see from research, Retinyl Palmitate is considered one of the safest forms of retinol.  Unfortunately for me, my skin seems to be unable to tolerate any form at all, and this mask did result in some sensitivity.  Of course, the silver lining in the cloud is that this proves the mask is highly effective even though it only stays on the skin for mere minutes before being rinsed off!

Glamglow Flashmud

For those who are unable to take the flash treatment of the above Radical Skincare mask, here is one from the cult mud mask brand – Glamglow Flashmud Brightening Treatment*.  This is one of their latest masks, and combines a scrub with a mask in 1 product, to target uneven skin tone.

In my opinion, this is the most refined version of the Glamglow mask so far, as the usual scrubbly bits of tea leaves are not found here.  Instead, Glamglow uses a much smaller physical exfoliant in Flashmud, and you are supposed to gently massage in circular motions to remove dead skin cells to enable optimal absorption of the mask.  Thereafter, leave the mask on for up to 20 minutes, and you will notice it turning slightly translucent and dry.  Rinse off with water when done, and finish with the rest of your skincare routine.

Lots of new ingredients here to embrace – a bunch of floral extracts designed to even out skin tone; Lactic and Salicylic Acids further exfoliate and unclog pores; Acetyl Glucosamine and Niacinamide work deep beneath to fade brown spots and other discolorations; and Diamond powder leaves the skin looking radiant!  This mask, unlike other mud masks, doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight and dry.  Instead, my skin feels properly cleansed and brighter than before.  It may also be used 3 days in a row as an intensive treatment to kickstart the course, and thereafter used 1-2x weekly for maintenance.

Skin Inc Get Glowin Brightening Mask

And lastly, from home-grown Singapore skincare brand – Skin Inc Get Glowin’ Brightening Mask* – we have an intensive brightening mask that also hydrates the skin.

Skin Inc Get Glowin Brightening Mask

Skin Inc is an interesting brand that tries to infuse technology into skincare, and its Get Glowin’ Brightening Mask is a testament to that, as it uses breaks down water molecules into nano particles to allow deeper penetration into the skin.  The brand also talks about how this mask is able to form a field of positive ions over skin to pull negatively charged melanin ions from deep within, leaving skin instantly brighter with 1 application, and completely lighten spots after 14 days’ continuous use.

The key ingredient here is the Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract (aka baicailin) which is an effective antioxidant and has the ability to protect skin cells from free radical damage.  Other beneficial ingredients include Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Horsetail Arvense Extract, Mulberry Root Extract, and Kudzu Root Extract… all known antioxidants and have spot-reducing properties.

Despite my skepticism over the science-y marketing speak, this mask is indeed lovely.  The texture is souffle light, and it dries down softly like the Glamglow Flashmud above, but much gentler without the physical and chemical exfoliants.  It instantly brightens my skin, without leaving it parched.  In fact, my skin feels soothed and perfectly balanced.

So, lots of options here today, depending on your skin’s needs this time of the year.  If you’re feeling stressed and need a good pampering to kickstart the new year, do consider Chanel Sublimage Masque and/or La Mer The Intensive Revitalizing Mask.  If a flash brightening is all that’s needed to get rid of the dullness, do try Radical Skincare’s The Instant Revitalising Mask, or Glamglow Flashmud.  Skin Inc Get Glowin’ Brightening Mask is a gentler yet effective option as well, and perfect for regular maintenance to see you bright and glowy into 2016!

What a thorough post Linda! I love how the Radical Mask fizzes. I am in need of a little pampering session myself.

The La Mer Intensive Revitalizing Mask is great! I use it twice a week, and my skin feels good. I’ve also been using Estee Lauder’s Revitalizing Supreme mask 3 times a week. My skin needs all the help it can get now that I’m getting older. I mask nearly every night and I do see a difference!
