I am chasing the rainbow!! Manimonday may have slipped by, but I am determined to show you a special set of watercolor nails that I created with a couple of Lunasol Nail Finish N lacquers from their Summer 2016 collection!
I had already shown you several pieces from Lunasol’s Summer 2016 makeup collection here and here last week, and today I wanted to round up the mini series with a couple of nail polishes. Lunasol has released 4 limited edition Nail Finish N this season, and they are all semi-sheer, jelly-like formulas. The colors are mostly cool-toned like most of the makeup collection, and playful hues that remind me of Ariel the mermaid.
I have 2 shades to play with, and shown above is EX44 Clear Blue, taken on Day 5 hence pardon the slight uneven grow-out at the base of the nail. EX44 is a medium blue which pulls warm when worn over my bare nails as shown on my ring finger because my underlying skin still shows through. The color itself is incredibly sheer, and I had applied 4-5 coats for it to show up as much as it does on my ring finger. Because of that, I decided to play with the polish, and just slapped them over a white base coat, and smudged out by dabbing a sponge over it to create the watercolor effect!
Here is the other hand featuring EX47 Clear Coral on the ring finger, taken when freshly painted. Clear Coral is a medium salmon pink which is really pretty worn over bare nails for a my-nails-but-better clean look. Of course, I layered on 5 coats here on my ring finger to show you the color, and then I got bored with it and sandwiched a dash of EX44 in between the coats. I also added some dry brushstrokes in white to make things more cohesive. It’s really quite fun!
As these shades are all translucent, they can be worn as a topper, or over bare nails for a jelly finish. Perhaps because they are sheer, tip wear does not show up quite as much, and I am now into day 5 without any signs of chipping! These polishes also dry quickly and are the perfect fuss-free choice before heading out the door this summer!

Very summery and pretty. I’m very into the cool pastels all the way into August when i go for those bronzy and green gods.
Wow you’ve got it all planned huh, Alison! 😉 Love to see those bronzes and greens you’ve got planned!
Well, Linda, without a plan, what hope is there ever of quote-unquote “using one’s stash?” Don’t laugh out loud. Right now, I have pulled out Mediterrannee for the next pedicure. And am looking forward to the hot pinks and corals for latter part of July– oh, Dior?
Loving the watercolor effect! I’ve never tried anything like this before. It’s also great that you go 5 without any signs of chipping! x

Riiiight?? 5 days is out of this world for me!! My nails typically chip overnight if you can imagine. And this is really easy to do…. and fun too!
Love the watercolor effect. I didn’t know you could use a sponge to create it! Might be inspiration for my next mani! Beautiful post!

Thanks Dom! Yeah, just sort of dab a corner of a sponge lightly over everything to give it that textural effect. Have fun!
