Is Lancôme Grandiose Mascara all that Grand?

September 1, 2014

Every Monday morning I tell myself I should start sleeping earlier… but it never happens. Every morning is a mad dash… 10 minutes makeup is a hopeless illusion. And what is worse than messing up the eyeshadow? It is smearing mascara all over that painstakingly perfected eyeshadow!! But ever since Lancôme Grandiose Mascara came into my life, that is 1 less thing to stress over.

Lancome Grandiose Mascara

The first thing anyone notices about this new mascara is the bell-shaped tube. It is designed this way to accommodate the swan-necked wand. The brush swirls around the inside of the tube as you twist it out, thereby ensuring the entire brush is evenly coated, and it also serves to stir the formula inside to maintain consistency. And I was able to coat all the lashes on both eyes without having to redip the brush in the tube. A few precious seconds shaved!

More importantly, the curved angle of the wand felt much more comfortable to hold. I was able to reach even the tiniest lash easily without having to twist and turn my hand. I used to have some difficulty controlling mascara brushes with my left hand, but even on blurry eyed mornings, I am able to work the Grandiose mascara without smudging anything.

Don’t ask me why, but I used to accidentally brush my mascara against my lash line… I attribute it to short lashes and hooded lids. And with Lancôme Grandiose Mascara, this no longer happens. The bristles looked short to me on inspection, and I believe this may be the secret to eliminating accidental brushes against the lid. At the same time, I had no problems coating each lash. The formula had an elastic polymer feel to it that was able to cling onto each lash quickly, and was dark enough to give my pathetic lashes much-needed definition.

Lancome Grandiose Mascara before after comparison

Apart from the technical design genius, Lancôme Grandiose Mascara did lift my lashes a little, although not to the same extent as some other mascaras that I’ve tried (such as this). On the other hand, it volumnized nicely without clumping, and I only needed 2 simple coats without spending crazy amounts of time zigzagging, wriggling, finagling, arm-wrestling, etc. My only gripe with an otherwise perfectly good mascara, is this smudges on my oily lids and Singapore’s tropical humidity. This is easily resolved with 1 simple coat of mascara base, although at SGD60, I really wished it was perfectly grand.

that wand makes me nervous! It looks like you’d have to maneuver a little to apply the mascara!
Too bad that it smudges on you! Is it supposed to be waterproof?

Not at all babe… so easy and intuitive! Yeah bummer about the smudging, this one isn’t waterproof, but i wont be surprised they release one soon.

  2. I’m, sticking to my ‘holy grails’ which are, Lancome Definicils and Dior Extase. They are fantastic on my lashes

Thanks for your review, because I’ve been curious about this. Lancome mascaras are usually either a hit or a miss for me, and I think I’ll skip this. I quite like the Hypnose Doll and Hypnose Star, but I do get the problem of getting mascara on my lids too 🙁

Hi Lily, thanks for stopping by! I know lots of people love Lancome mascaras, but they tend to smudge on me. 🙁 I think Grandiose is really great for daily wear (primer needed), but not when i need more drama.

Your lashes in the After pic looks wonderfully full! I was eager to try this out, but upon hearing that it smudges on you, I think it will def be a problem for me too. Might just wait on this one I think.

What mascara base do you prefer?

    • silverkis says:

Haha thanks Noodles! I generally have a problem with mascaras smudging though… 9 out of 10 do. It’s the oily, hooded lids + tropical humidity!

I’m really indifferent with bases… I used to live on Marjolica, and now I’m using Lancome just because I have it on hand.

Hey Linda, I’m curious about this one, but I really can’t buy more mascaras! So sorry to hear it smudges on you! The tropical weather is a huge challenge for anything to stay put indeed.

I know babe… too many of everything!! And mascaras dry up if you don’t use them! But i’m sure u’ll get around to trying it eventually! 😉
