For a beauty junkie, i’ve been embarrassingly slow to experiment with the latest slew of serums. That is all about to change, as i’m planning to review a new serum every week from now on! To get things rolling, I thought I’d check out Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate which has been receiving rave reviews ever since its launch (er-hmm… 2 years ago… i’m that slow!). While I was at the Kiehl’s boutique, the beauty advisor also strongly recommended I use the MDR together with their Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate to enhance the radiance boosting benefits. To address my concern of scarring and uneven skin tone, she added the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution to my regiment.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (“MRC”) is described to have a “potent concentration of botanical extracts specifically formulated to biologically replicate skin’s natural lipids for optimal skin repair throughout the night”. MDR comprises of a blend of evening primrose oil, lavender essential oil and squalane to repair, soothe, and replenish the skin’s natural functions.
Although I am generally averse to applying oil on my face, I was persuaded when it felt relatively dry on my hands. However, it left an oily sheen on my otherwise normal/combination face. This was made worse when I layered the Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate (“PLC”) over as recommended by the beauty advisor. The sheen never faded as the night progressed (which I inferred to mean my products were not absorbed completely…pity), and my skin felt heavy and oily (something i’m just not accustomed to).
On my 2nd night, I decided to skip my night moisturizer (which i do not recommend!) just to see if my skin will feel less heavy. Sadly, it still felt oily and heavy.
I decided to give the MRC another go, and on my 3rd night, I decided to apply only the MRC and my moisturizer, skipping the PLC (i applied that on my neck instead…more on that later!). There was a slight improvement. However, every night that I used the MRC, i woke up to fresh pimples! The number and size of the zits gradually reduced over the 3 nights, so this may be 1 of those products that first causes breakouts before stabilizing the skin…. On the plus side, my skin did feel plumper and more radiant. The product also had a lovely lavender scent that helped soothe me to sleep.
Next up, Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate.
Formulated with a 10.5% Pure Vitamin C, Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate gives skin a triple boost by stimulating collagen production, providing anti-oxidant protection and exfoliating skin to reveal healthier-looking skin. More importantly, Kiehl’s uses a safe and effective version of Vitamin C that provides the same benefits of Retinol without the irritation and sensitivity associated with it.
This product gave a slight warming sensation when applied, and left a slight sheen on my face (but still acceptable). The real magical moment happened when I applied this on my neck, and woke up to much plumper and radiant skin! Given the neglected state of the skin on my neck, the creases were much less noticeable and my skin felt smoother. I would buy the full-sized in a heartbeat!
The gem in my prescription, lies in Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution.
Formulated with Activated C, Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution is able to prevent the formation of new melanin clusters and break apart existing melanin clusters, to diminish visible dark spots and discolorations . It also decreases melanin production and slows melanin transfer to skin’s surface.
With its clear watery texture, the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution is easily absorbed, leaving no sticky / oily residue. This makes it ideal for layering with any other beauty products. After about a week’s continual use, there was a noticeable lightening of my pimple scars. Without keeping an eye out for it, my scars had miraculously vanished after 2 weeks! And so, a new addition to my beauty table has arrived!
