The inevitable has finally happened… just when I was starting to think my skin has grown invincible. I’ve been trying so many products lately that I was bound to encounter something or other that causes my skin to flare up. I have a pretty good idea which is the culprit, but just to be fair, I’ll probably give it another shot once my skin recovers before lambasting it.
Meanwhile, I’ve been dealing with an angry red patch on my left cheek for the past week. It is rather annoying as I look ugly, and it stings somewhat when I apply stuff over it. For a while it was also flakey which really sucked.
That was when I fell in love with Guerlain’s SOS Serum…
“The ultimate solution to soothe and calm the skin and limit allergic reactions. With SOS Serum, the skin is strengthened and softened, completely prepared for high-performance skincare products. When your skin seems to react to everything, here’s the ultimate solution.”
This is actually my 2nd time reaching for this little gem. The first time round, I had just a tiny little blip, and it cleared up overnight. I wasn’t entirely convinced it was Guerlain’s SOS Serum that saved the day until I used it again.
The trouble with my skin is that once it starts being hyper-sensitive, almost anything can worsen the situation. The more powerful a product is, the worse my skin gets. So after a few days of using a top-notch luxury moisturizer (I shall reserve my thoughts on that in another review), and finding the redness turn flakey and stingy, I finally dropped everything and went back to basics but incorporating Guerlain SOS Serum.
Overnight, the flaking went away! That to me, is simply amazing! Redness, I can always cover up. But flaking just makes my foundation cakey and gross. I also have a tendancy to pick away at the flakey skin, making things all that much worse. *boohoo*
On the 3rd day (I don’t know why I didn’t think of using this in the daytime as well *duh*), the stinging sensation had gone away, although there was still some redness. I finally wised up, and applied the SOS Serum day and night too. And by the 5th day, it had completely cleared! *woohoo!!*
To be honest, I have no idea what it is in Guerlain’s SOS Serum that does the trick. The ingredient list is nothing spectacular, and it lacks other anti-aging benefits that Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair contains [read about the ANR here]. The ANR, as its devotees will tell you, is supposed to be an all-in-one miracle worker… perhaps i’ll test that out next time my skin goes through its bout again! It also contains parabens and other not-so-nice chemicals. But IT WORKS when nothing else does, and that’s all that matters to me!
Do you suffer from skin sensitivities / eczema / dermatitis too? If so, what have you tried that works?
