Happy Monday all! I was super stoked to be invited to attend Guerlain’s launch event for their new base products last Friday, stuff that I’ve been waiting for a VERY LONG TIME!! Needless to say, I made a massive haul, and I mean, MASSIVE (in my defense, my birthday is coming up, and they had a really attractive gift-with-purchase promotion!!!). I got a chance to try out one of them over the weekend, and am sooo excited to bring you this review for *drumroll* Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Beauty Booster!!!
I know what you must be thinking… not another BB cream! I know we’re all reaching that breaking point, and I can’t tell you that this one will change your life forever… but it sure is going to be a permanent member of my beauty arsenal from now on. For those of you who have been following me for some time, you’ll know that I have an incredibly soft spot for Guerlain, and I’m one of those BB freaks, so this is almost a no-brainer for me. However, with 9 full-sized BB creams in my regular stash, that’s not counting all the other samples and travel sizes that have somehow found their way into my drawers (!?!), I have learnt to be quite discerning. For this review, I’m going to compare Guerlain’s BB with some of my other faves, so hopefully it will be more useful for you (and justify why I need more than 1 BB *LOL*)!
“Guerlain has refined the concept of a dreamlike, perfect complexion with the first Lingerie de Peau Beauty Booster. With its fresh and silk texture, this multiple action BB cream blends in seamlessly, offering the skin a wonderful surge of freshness for the summer, while gently enhancing the beauty of the complexion for a sheer, barely there result.”
Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Beauty Booster Invisible Skin-Fusion Multi-Perfecting Makeup SPF 30 PA+++ is currently available in 2 shades – Light and Medium. I was really happy to find that Light was a perfect match for me, quite possibly one of the best matches for my cool-toned, light-Asian complexion when compared with some of the other BB creams I’ve tried!
I compared Guerlain’s BB with some of the luxury BB cream creams in my stash – Chanel’s All-in-One Healthy Glow Cream, YSL’s Top Secret All-in-One BB Cream, and Diorsnow White Reveal BB cream (this last one, I didn’t love quite as much, but I included it for comparison’s sake). As you can see, Guerlain’s BB has a slightly pink-beige undertone, whereas I found Diorsnow to be really yellow, YSL is much more pink, and Chanel BB is a warmer beige.
Guerlain’s BB pumps out of the tube with a slightly runny consistency, similar to Diorsnow and Chanel, but upon application, it dries fairly fast and so may feel thicker than the others. I’ve seen some reviews out there describing Guerlain’s BB as harder to work with, but I personally did not have any trouble applying this with my fingers. The trick is to work fast, work on a small area at a time (say, 1 cheek at a time, then the forehead, chin, nose), start with a thin layer and add on more as needed.
As you can see from the blended swatch above, Guerlain’s Beauty Booster provided fairly good “light-medium” coverage (that is using typical foundation lingo… if I were to scale it according to typical BB cream effect, I’d say this gave “medium-full” coverage). It covered my undereye darkness and redness around my nose sufficiently for relaxed weekends (although some concealor would still be needed if I wanted to be totally flawless). On the same side of the spectrum, Diorsnow gave more coverage (I found Diorsnow heavier and harder to work with than Guerlain); whilst both YSL and Chanel were extremely sheer (I had piled them on here so they remained visible, but you can see how Chanel’s was just disappearing into my skin!).
What I LOVED, is that Guerlain Beauty Booster gave an almost matte finish which makes it so different from the rest! I said “almost” matte because true to the rest of the Lingerie de Peau family, this BB still allows your natural skin to peek through, and does not look cakey. It was also incredibly lightweight and comfortable to wear, does not feel oily.
Lingerie de Peau’s signature complex
Guerlain’s latest BB offering uses the Lingerie de Peau Bio-Fusion micro-mesh. It contains hyaluronic acid to help dramatically plump skin. Silk & linen combine their complementary qualities to weave an imperceptible veil of perfection onto the surface of the skin. Pigments chosen by Guerlain were selected for their fine texture and color harmony, to fuse and melt instantly onto the surface of the skin. And finally, SPF 30 PA+++ gives the wearer sufficient sun protection for the day.
It is important to note that as with all BB creams, they are really not made for extreme all-day wear, nor are they meant to cover every single pore and zit. For that, you will have to go with a full-coverage foundation. Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Beauty Booster stayed semi-matte on me for about 3-4 hours, after which, I needed to blot and powder (typical with most foundations due to my oily-combination skin). More importantly, this BB stayed firmly on my face throughout the day without sliding off, and did not oxidise.
Do I really need another BB cream??
Hahaha… that’s for you to decide for yourself! Personally, I think everyone needs at least 2 different BBs – a lightweight, sheer one for layering underneath your foundation for those days when you need just a bit more help (my picks for that purpose are YSL and Chanel!); and another one with a bit more coverage for wearing on its own for days when you just don’t feel like reaching for your foundation. Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Beauty Booster falls in the latter category, and with a nice semi-matte finish that looks polished enough for running around town in.
I promise this will be my last BB cream review for a long while. In the next couple of days or so, I will be posting a review for the other Guerlain base product that I purchased at the event *mystery mystery!*… i’m really looking forward to that! And then my birthday giveaway is coming up this weekend!! So be sure to stay tuned and check back throughout this week!!! Til then, go forth and conquer! XOXO
I’m just about nearly finished with my MAC BB cream and decided to try something else and your blog is purrrrfect in giving me some reviews and info on other BB products 🙂 Supa useful…I think this might be my next purchase hee! 🙂
Oh definitely try the Guerlain BB babe… you won’t regret it!!!
Your skin is so fair O.O
This bb cream looks good. But I think it’ll be too sheer for me 🙁
hi babe, the Guerlain Beauty Booster is actually quite good in terms of coverage!
Hi Babe,
I love this bb cream a lot! I feel that the texture is light but it gives me the right coverage. On top of that, it doesn’t fade even after 11 hours of wearing 🙂
yay so happy to hear!!! I personally think it’s 1 of the best! 😉
Hi! Do you prefer this bb cream to the foundation of the same range??
Oh babe, this is completely different from the Lingerie de Peau foundation! I think they used the same name because the color technology is the same. I found the foundie to be sheer (for a foundation), runny in consistency, and gives a dewy finish. In contrast, this BB is thicker in consistency and leaves a velvety matte finish. The foundie will prob also last longer than the BB, although I have not had the chance to compare them side by side.
