Guerlain Blanc de Perle Advanced White P.E.A.R.L. Drop Essence

June 3, 2014

Earlier this year, Guerlain unveiled a fresh take on its Blanc de Perle range of whitening skincare products. At the heart of it, is the newly reformulated Advanced White P.E.A.R.L. Drop Essence.

Guerlain Blanc de Perle Advanced White PEARL Drop Essence

Guerlain’s latest whitening essence boasts of a Melanin Control Technology to target both stubborn and recently-formed melanin, and prevent future formation in the key layers of the skin. It works on existing dark spots, making them lose their intensity; and deactivate future dark spots preventing them from emerging on the surface of the skin.

“2 months’ of treatment allows you to gain 7 years on dark spots”

The Advanced White P.E.A.R.L. Drop Essence comes in a hefty white bottle shaped like a pearl, and the product is dispensed via a dropper. To apply, dispense 2 drops on your fingers, and spread over the face. If there is any left over, I continue to sweep over my neck as well.

The product is a thin slightly milky fluid that is readily absorbed without leaving any stickiness. It also has a beautiful fragrance, which is one of the hallmarks of Guerlain. When I first started using the Blanc de Perle White P.E.A.R.L. Drop Essence last year, I found the scent to be too strong and somewhat sharp. But perhaps I have grown accustomed to the scent, I found this year’s improved formula to be easier on the senses and more pleasant. Nonetheless, if you are very averse to fragrances in skincare, I do recommend trying this out first if you can.

I have been using this every morning for the past 2 months, and am able to compare it against the previous version of this essence (briefly introduced here). The biggest difference, in my opinion, is this latest version is definitely more hydrating. Which is not to say the older version was drying, but the whitening products that I’ve experienced so far generally do not provide me any hydration boost. Given that I am usually out for 12 hours or longer, this improved hydrating property does factor in significantly in helping my skin keep shine at bay (dehydrated skin tends to produce more oil), and keep my makeup looking fresh.

My skin did not have any noticeable dark spots prior to using this (thanks to this whitening serum that I got hooked on earlier this year), but some random pimple scar here and there. I did not find Guerlain Blanc de Perle Advanced White PEARL Drop Essence to be particularly good at resolving those pimple scars (for that, the Blanc de Perle Double-Action Spot Eraser may be more suitable).  However, last weekend I was in a mad dash and hopped down to the pool with my boy to grab some sun, totally forgetting to apply sunscreen.  30 minutes later I came home to find myself darker by 2 foundation shades!  Whilst my tans usually fade quite quickly, I applied Guerlain Blanc de Perle Advanced White PEARL Drop Essence right after a quick shower, and found my skin had equalized back to its usual shade by the next morning!

Guerlain Blanc de Perle Advanced White PEARL Drop Essence retails for SGD175 and is available at Guerlain counters in TANGS Orchard and Takashimaya in Singapore.

The Blanc de Perle range is exclusive to Asia, but it is available on Harrods for those who are looking to purchase online.

It has a nice packaging and the hydrating quality seems impressive but I guess I have to pass on this one. I really do not believe in whitening serums or creams.

ah, Guerlain, why do you have to make such pretty packaging? It makes me want to own pretty much everything they release!
Sadly (or fortunately :P) we don’t get the Blanc de Perle range here.

And now you reminded me that I haven’t used my whitening cream in ages! I don’t know why I always forget to use it! (and obviously, there hasn’t been any improvement on my dark spots) I think I should just buy a whitening serum, so I remember that I have it! 😛

LOL… yes those packaging get us everytime don’t they? If you’d like any, I can send them over to you. But there are always alternatives that are much more accessible for you. Anyway, for actual dark spots you’ll prob need a spot serum… creams don’t really work on spots in my experience, but more for general brightening.

Thanks for your offer! But I think I’ll pass on this one. I know there are some cheaper whitening serums, and I think I’ll try one of those (even if looking at them doesn’t make as happy, lol). And yes, I never felt the cream I was using really helped any, maybe that is why I always forget to use it now.
