I am racing against time here… the year is coming to an end so soon, and I’m still discovering hidden gems from recent releases that I have yet to share with you. Etude House has been a brand that I’ve been following quite a bit this year, thanks in part also to their kind support (which I’m particularly grateful for since I may be just a little bit outside of their key demographics), but mainly because there are lots to love from their vast selection of products and at such accessible prices we can afford to have some fun! The items that I have to show you today were from their Fall 2015 releases, which reached me sometime in October right in the full swing of the Holiday 2015 collections. Thankfully, these are all permanent, and really wonderful stuff, so do check them out!
I loved Etude House’s Precious Mineral Any Cushion Pearl Aura [reviewed here] when I first tried it earlier this year. And so when they popped out with the Etude House Precious Mineral Moist Any Cushion a few months later, I was temporarily confused. The packaging looks almost identical, and save for the label at the back, it is hard to tell the 2 apart until you open it up.
Unlike the Pearl Aura, this Moist Any Cushion looks like a pretty typical cushion. The liquid foundation is housed in a sponge that is protected by a swing lid that snaps shut over the cushion. A flat rubberized sponge with an anti-bacterial cover resides on top of the swing lid, and a larger cover bearing a mirror on the inner side keeps the entire compact tightly shut when placed in a bag.
This new cushion arrived at the perfect time as the weather is getting colder and my skin drier. It is filled with Baobab Water which contains 4x more Hyaluronic Acid and thus keeps skin moist and comfortable all day. A new “Glow Lock Complex” forms a clear refractive layer on the surface of the skin to enhance radiance, whilst locking in moisture to keep skin looking plump. Compared to the classic Any Cushion as well as the Pearl Aura, this new Moist Any Cushion provides slightly less coverage, although I found I was able to build it up to a light medium by patting on more over the required spots. Simply wait for the first layer to dry (which it does fairly quickly) before applying a second layer.
I did notice the formula to be slightly thicker, less watery and “creamier”, although I really did not have any problems with application. The only difference was that since my skin is currently still recovering from some allergic reaction and not at its smoothest, I had difficulty trying to apply by swiping it with a sponge. Instead, bouncing a beauty blender or patting it with a sponge (which is the “correct” recommended method anyway) worked better.
As you can see from the half-faced comparison shot above, Etude House Precious Mineral Moist Any Cushion provided a decent amount of coverage though does not completely cover up redness and pimple scars. On the other hand, there is a noticeable brightening, as my skin is looking rather dull at the moment, though the shade is spot on for me. The glow also stayed on all day, and did not turn dewy / oily even at the end of the day! There are 3 shades available, and the one I am using is W13 Natural Beige.
Along with the wonderful cushion, Etude House has also recently released 10 new shades to their existing 50 (!!) Play 101 Pencils, and these are available in 5 finishes – creamy, shimmer, glossy, glitter and matte. Etude House’s Play 101 Pencils are multi-purpose, you can use them on the eyes, cheeks and even lips. They set very quickly and stay put once dried. The best thing about these pencils is that they are twist-up, so you never have to mess with a sharpener! I have swatches of 7 out of the 10 new shades as follows:
Priced at SGD12 each, these are some of the cheapest pencil liners (for lack of better comparisons) in the market, and the quality is superb for the price. Unfortunately for me though, they were not completely budge-proof on my oily and heavily hooded lids, but did smudge and fade after a few hours. I also found that you need to work very quickly if you plan on blending these out as they set within seconds, and depending on the finish, may not be all that creamy and easy to blend to begin with. Regardless, they are incredibly fun, and it is so much easier to carry a couple of pencils along for makeup on the go, than a whole bag full of eyeshadows and blushes!
Onto what is quite possibly my latest obsession, Etude House Sweet Cherry Tint! I love these twist-up pen-like lip products as I find them so easy to apply precisely, and they don’t take up unnecessary space. You do have to take note though, the mechanism only allows you to twist it one-way up and doesn’t back down. So only twist up the tiniest bit to use.
These non-descript pen-like twist-up lip colors go on silky smooth, stay on the lips like a liquid lip tint and feel comfortable like a balm!!! What is even better is that the coverage and color intensity is actually very impressive, from medium to almost full coverage depending on the shade! And just like lip tints, they do last very long, even after a full meal there is still color left!
I have been secretly loving 01 and bringing it everywhere with me, even though there are so many lip colors and formulas that I’m supposed to be testing out still! A formula like this is perfect for casual days, and my lips love the buttery moist change after all the matte lips!
Overall, lots to have fun with from Etude House, they also have some really cool Holiday 2015 offerings in stores. So pop on over and check them out, and pick up some stocking fillers while you are there!
