Estee Lauder Double Wear Cushion BB All Day Wear Liquid Compact
April 11, 2016
Any Estee Lauder Double Wear fan in the house?! The legendary foundation has been a top favorite of makeup lovers for years and years because of its long-wearing, budge-proof formula. I used to wear it when I was much younger, when my overactive oil glands required bullet-proof makeup. These days, however, I prefer something more lightweight in texture and more forgiving on dry skin. So it was a match made in heaven when Estee Lauder took its Double Wear formula, and made it even more moisturizing and light, in the form of the new Double Wear Cushion BB All Day Wear Liquid Compact!
Estee Lauder Double Wear Cushion is technically billed as a BB, but it is really a medium coverage liquid foundation that wears all day. It comes in the standard cushion compact, with the air-tight swing lid covering the foundation-filled sponge. The external casing is really a very deep blue (not black!) and is just slightly smaller than the Double Wear Makeup To Go released last year [reviewed here].
The enclosed applicator puff feels thicker than some of the other cushion puffs out there, and is handy for touch-ups on the go. But it is still too squeaky on my skin and I prefer bouncing a beauty blender or using a brush whenever I can.
It is interesting how many reviews out there have dissected these Western-branded cushions and compared them against their cheaper, original Korean counterparts. I have asked the question myself why is it that Western-branded cushions cost so much more when so many of them are OEM by Korean suppliers. There really is no good answer to all our endless ponderings, and after much soul-searching, I have come to accept that it is not simply a matter of brand consciousness (I have been a fan of Etude House’s cheap and affordable cushions for years!). Rather, I much prefer the higher coverage and no-dewy finish from the Western brands. It appears to me that the recent batch of cushions that have been released are all much longer-lasting and offers more coverage to be more foundation-like so I can use them on my long days without having to touch up. And it is this, that has won me over to Estee Lauder Double Wear Cushion!
Formulated with fruit extracts, the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Cushion helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines by providing an immediate boost of hydration to the skin. At the same time, cold water kelp extract helps to balance skin’s natural oil production to control excess sebum and shine. It also contains red algae and tourmaline to render a glowy, radiant luminosity. Silk powder and an improved pigment technology work together to reflect light and give a soft, diffused glow. I attach a copy of the ingredient list below, because that is often helpful to know.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Cushion BB All Day Wear Liquid Compact has a lovely medium, buildable coverage that is able to cover up any redness on my cheeks and around my nose, even lightens my dark undereye circles considerably. The finish is radiant, slightly more matte than Bobbi Brown’s but much more luscious than YSL’s. Upon first applying it, I found the Estee Lauder Double Wear Cushion to slightly emphasize my pores, mainly because it is so glowy on my cheeks it reflects the light and draws attention there. After about an hour once my skin’s natural oil has mingled with the formula, the effect softens and becomes even prettier! It then stays that way, doesn’t get progressively oilier, and does not crease or fade away until I remove it at the end of the day.

There are 5 available shades – Bone, Sand, Cool Vanilla, Warm Vanilla, and Tawny. I managed to swatch all of them, so you can make your own assessments. I am usually 1W0 in Estee Lauder foundations but these run light, so I went with 1W2 Sand instead. Sand applies just a slight tad darker at first, but after my skin naturally oxidizes (the cushion formula itself doesn’t!), it becomes a perfect match.
It seems like each new cushion that comes my way becomes my hottest favorite right away, but each of them do differ slightly and are great for different occasions. This Estee Lauder Double Wear cushion is a lovely one for those with drier skin and are looking for good coverage that lasts all day. Furthermore, it comes with SPF50 / PA+++ sun protection, which is always welcome in my arsenal. Available at all Estee Lauder Boutique @ Ion Orchard and counters in Singapore from this month onwards.
Has any cushion caught your eye so far?
This post featured a product that was kindly provided for my consideration. Regardless, all opinions expressed here are my own honest, unbiased views.
I dont believe this has launched in the UK(gasp). My first impression is that the shade range is not as wide as I would have expected. You look lovely even without any cover(sigh…jealous) Im a fan of the the DW range so will definitely try. Lovely post as always.xo
I think I might give the BB a go! not a big fan of the Double Wear ( don’t judge! ) but lighter bases are my weakness! plus, it looks amazing on you Linda! is this an Asian exclusive? lots of xx, Annie | Annie’s Beauty
Ah it’d be interesting to try – suitable for dry skin and with higher coverage. I always prefer lighter coverage ones because the shades will be more forgiving. It’s not easy for me to find one that suits me perfectly… especially for Estee Lauder foundations. They always seem too pink for me!
OMG I wanna try this so bad! I’m really enjoying the Innisfree long wearing cushion. It’s a nice matte texture and works great with my oily skin, but this has been on my radar to try and get. I wonder if it’s sold here in the States!
I wonder if this is coming to the US! It sounds nice. Anyway I feel like the shade range is weird! I am tawny if I get tan in the summer but none of the others would work for me at all!
yeah it is quite limited isn’t it? I went with one that is too yellow for me…. but it’s better than the pinks. Let’s hope they bring out more shades soon!
Every time I read your blog, I want to buy everything you review…Hahaha You make everything look so good. I’m a bit dry so this sounds perfect. Lovely review! xo

hi Mika, yes the Innisfree one seems very popular for oily skin ladies! This one is not so matte, but it is great precisely because of that!
