Dolce & Gabbana Smooth Eye Color Quad is something I have been coveting for the longest time. But given the disparate reviews for various quads out there, I’ve been putting one or another palette in my shopping cart and taking it out again. This is what happens when there isn’t a physical counter where I can go to swatch. [Makeup gods: do you hear me??!] But since a couple of girlfriends were at a counter in Hong Kong, and I was only given a couple of seconds to call in my order, I went for it! Ladies, meet Tangier.
This late in the season, I’d hate to pick up another Summer 2014 palette… but with Tangier, it feels like Thanksgiving and the Fall. Summer palettes are always about molten looks and poolside ease, but with Tangier, I feel like bringing out my leopard print maxi dress, definitely heels stilettos preferred, and that Roberto Cavalli cuff…
Just look at that orange! Counter-clockwise from top left, the shades are:
For my very first attempt at wearing Tangier, I wanted to do something different, and play with the colors in an unexpected way.
I applied the gold all over the lid (which was when I discovered it is slightly sheer thus not really conducive for all-over color). Thereafter I added a dash of peach at the outer third of the lid. Then I defined the outer corner of the eye using the espresso shade, elongating outwards following from the lower lash line. And for the unexpected touch, I used the orange to blend the espresso into my crease. I also used the espresso as a liner, particularly on the outer corner and then along half my lower lash line. Not a bad golden eye look for day wear!
And of course, to play up the main star of this palette, I first dusted a little peach all over the lid, and then buffed the orange from the center to the outer corner. Espresso on the outer edge to define, and also to line the top and bottom lash lines. Finally I added a dash of gold to my inner corner along the lower lash line to brighten up my sleepy eyes a little.
Here is how Tangier looked when paired with Amaryllis (reviewed here):
Tangier is my very first Dolce & Gabbana Smooth Eye Color Quad, and I am sure it won’t be the last. The textures are simply sublime, and effortless to blend. The gold shade felt a little sheer and the peach was too close to my skintone to show up well, but I think they are designed to be this way to complement the other 2 very pigmented matte shades. It also lasted me well all day without primer and neither creased nor faded. I really cannot gush about Tangier enough! You’ve got to see it to believe it!
