Dior Fall 2016 Parisian Sky 5 Couleurs Palette

I am certainly falling hard for Dior Skyline Collection for Fall 2016.  I must admit, this took a little of a backseat in light of the other bolder collections, but the more I play with them, the more in love I am!  My first pick was the Capital of Lights palette that I reviewed yesterday, but unsuspectingly, my greater love is for the Dior 5 Couleurs Palette in Parisian Sky!

Dior 5 Couleurs Palette in Parisian Sky (506) is one of those palettes that I often pass by thinking, hmmm it’s just too 1-note.  With just 1 deepening shade, and 4 light-to-mid toned hues that have the tendency to pull chalky on my lids, Parisian Sky did not feel quite as versatile as Capital of Lights at first sight.  But oh, when you actually get up close with it in real life, this is exactly how Paris looks on a clear sunny day!

I am just blown away by the artistry of the Dior makeup creators in designing Parisian Sky, because it is just mesmerizing!  That lattice-work design aside, the softly glimmering shades are just beyond gorgeous!

And if you like a good neutral palette, than this is one you should not miss because not only does Parisian Sky come with a stunning brown and a couple of neutral all-over washes of color; it also packs 2 interesting accents that are understated but oh-so-chic.

Dior Parisian Sky 5 Couleurs Palette swatches

From left to right, the swatches are:

  • Center of palette – Light shimmery silver that had a slightly sheer (though mostly opaque) base.  I loved patting this on the center of my lids!!  Surprising because I don’t often enjoy wearing silver/greys on my lids, but I think the cool-tone made this one wearable.  The only problem is that it tends to crumble and fall off my brush as I applied it, although it doesn’t suffer from fall out once on my lids.
  • Top right of palette – Pale pink-beige with a slightly frosted finish.  This is very close to my skin tone and works best as a brow-bone highlight.  It doesn’t show up very well as an inner corner highlight though, but is a lovely blending shade.
  • Top left of palette – Medium barley brown with a pearl finish.  A very lovely all-over shade or for blending the darker brown out.
  • Bottom left of palette – light icy blue with a frosted finish.  I was surprised that the blue in this actually shows up against my skin, and does not turn chalky.  It is an interesting accent shade, and one that surpasses all other such pale pastel eyeshadows that Dior has produced in the past.
  • Bottom right of palette – a rich, dark plummy brown with a mixture of violet and pale gold micro-shimmers against a satin base.  This is the winner in this palette, and the reason why I was swayed to purchase it.  I must point out though that this does not pick up as well with a brush as I would like (at least without severely mutilating the design), and requires a dense brush used in a dabbing motion to build up intensity.

I was surprised by the capacity for Parisian Sky to dial up the intensity.  For this eye look, I first applied the medium barley all over the lid as a base, thereafter I applied the dark brown on the inner third of my lid as well as the outer third.  I used a dense pencil brush in a dabbing motion to really pile the color on for it to show up this dark, with a fluffy airier brush it tends to sheer out like on my inner third.  Thereafter, I patted the silver shade on the center of my lid, you could to use a wet brush if you’d like to get even more intensity there.  Finally, I used the beige shade to blend out the crease, lined the lower lash line with the dark brown, and finished by popping the blue on the inner corner.

In the look above, I am also wearing Dior Addict Lipstick in Sophisticated (927) topped with Dior Addict Ultra Gloss in Scandalous (929).  I also picked up Dior Vernis in Skyline (848).  I will save these for another post (hopefully tomorrow) so check back again!

Have you picked up either of these Dior 5 Couleurs Palettes for Fall 2016 yet?
