Sometime in the midst of summer, I received this Dior Diorskin Forever Compact and have been subconsciously reaching for it whenever I needed some powder on my face. And as with all good things, it became such a natural companion that Fall is upon us before I remember I have yet to share it with you. But good powders are always welcome in our lives, so here it is today, better late than never.
Dior Diorskin Forever Compact comes in an understatedly chic black plastic case rimmed with silver along the edges of the cover. The letters DIOR are engraved in silver in the center of the cover. The cover snaps shut securely, but there isn’t a latch or magnetic clasp to ensure the case stays shut. Regardless, I have been carrying this around with me in my purse without its accompanying velvet case, and so far I’ve not had any problems with the case coming apart. The powder comes in a cartridge which is available as a refill, so it is more economical in the long run.
Diorskin Forever Compact is formulated with smart skin-shaping Skincare Essence that ensures the powder melts into the skin evenly and smoothly, and remains as natural-looking as possible throughout the day. I generally apply my powders on top of a light layer of BB cream or tinted sunscreen, so I don’t require much coverage from the powder itself. So in this aspect, Dior Diorskin Forever Compact worked marvellously as it is extraordinarily finely milled, light as air, near invisible when buffed into my skin. On the other hand, it is quite sheer, providing light to a light-medium coverage at best. What is nice about such a sheer powder, is that I can touch up throughout the day without it ever becoming cakey. I have even used it as a setting powder on top of a medium-full coverage foundation, by lightly sweeping it with a loose powder brush. Perfection!
Of course, those who use compact powders on their own in place of a foundation may find this Diorskin Forever Compact disappointingly sheer. But the latest makeup trend in the summer and even moving into fall, is to keep skin looking as natural and fresh as possible. So instead of trying to cover everything up to death, why not apply concealer only to areas where you need it, and then blend it all over with a light wash of powder?
In the half-faced comparison photo above, I had first applied a thin layer of this tinted sunscreen all over my face, and then buffed Dior Diorskin Forever Compact into the right half of my face. As you can see, the difference is almost imperceptible. There is a slight evening of my skin tone, the redness around the corner of my nose and on my cheeks is lightened, but my dark circles are still visible and the use of a concealer is needed on zits. The powder left a satin-matte finish that is almost creamy, never powdery. What I loved was the powder did not cover up the glow of my skin and the tinted sunscreen, instead it left a softly luminous look.
As always, Dior does not disappoint with its facial powders. Deerskin Forever Compact is a lovely powder, and the sleek compact is convenient for carrying around in a purse for touch-ups on the go. Although too sheer to provide much coverage on its own, it pairs wonderfully with a light coverage base such as a BB cream / tinted sunscreen or even Dior’s Dreamskin [reviewed here], to produce a beautifully natural complexion.
