Dior Addict Lipstick Relaunch

October 6, 2015

Dior recently relaunched its Dior Addict lipstick collection, and I also helped to host 1 of the launch parties held at the Dior Backstage Boutique in Singapore last Saturday.  A huge thank you to those of you who showed up to support the event, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to chat and mingle with you!  And of course, by now, you must have seen all kinds of rave reviews about these new lipsticks, but I would still like to give you my perspective on them.

Similar to the Tie Dye lipsticks from Dior’s Summer 2015 collection [read here], the new Dior Addict Lipsticks bear the CD logo in a different colour in the center of the tube.  This contains a Triple Oil Complex to smooth and plump up lips, and runs throughout the core of the tube. The lipstick itself has also been reformulated to include a new “Hydra-Gel” Topcoat to seal in colour and keep it on the lips for longer.

The new Dior Addict Lipsticks have a melting-balm texture, and are sheer the way you would expect of a lip balm.  However, they are buildable to an extent, some more so than others.  In general, the darker shades have more opacity and greater intensity than the lighter shades. With 35 shades to choose from (some markets have more!), there is bound to be something for everybody.

Since there are quite a few other similar lipsticks that were launched around the same time, I think the greatest differentiating factor for these Dior Addict Lipsticks is the large variety of shades available, and there are 3 finishes to choose from – Glow, Flash and Glitter.  The 4 “It” shades that are being promoted by Dior – 976 Be Dior, 561 Wonderful, 451 Tribale and 553 Smile – all belong to the Glitter family.

Here is another low-lighting shot of swatches of the “It” shades to show you the glitter…

Just basing my experiences on the 4 glitter shades that I have here, I think the texture and sheerness of these Dior Addict Lipsticks are quite similar to the Guerlain KissKiss Roselip Tinted Lip Balm [reviewed here].  On the other hand, Shu Uemura’s Rouge Unlimited Sheer Shine [reviewed here] is much more pigmented and has more slip on the lips.  As for the shine, I think the glitter Dior Addict lipsticks have a stronger flash due to the shimmers.  This is different from the glossy shine of the Shu Uemura Sheer Shines, and also different from the translucent shine of the Guerlain KissKiss Roselips.

And to give you an idea of how these look on my lips….

I have been a little bit hesitant to share this because I actually found these lipsticks to be somewhat drying on my lips.  What kind of social influencer hosts a party celebrating the launch of a new product and then turn around and diss it?  After much soul-searching, I thought the answer to that question is, a responsible influencer.  And after putting all 4 shades through weeks of testing, and going back and forth comparing with other similar products that I’ve loved, I think the reason why these particular 4 irritated my lips is their glitter content.  Although very fine, they do leave my lips with that slightly gritty feeling, and though I don’t have any flakiness on my lips, I do feel the need for a good treatment lip balm at the end of the day.  I’ve not tried any other Dior Addict Lipsticks without glitter though, so I can’t say conclusively that those would be better for my lips.  Certainly, I had no such problems with the Tie Dye lipsticks!

And since we are on the topic of relaunches, I just wanted to update that I’m starting a new job this week!  After 3 months of being a stay-home mom, I’m feeling a little bit anxious.  At the same time, I just realized how much time I have been investing in this blog, churning out a whopping 68 posts just in the time that I’ve been supposedly taking a break.  That is probably more than what many bloggers produce in an entire year.  I say this not to disparage, but merely to put things into context.  And whilst I still have lots of really cool and exciting things I’d love to share with you, things may slow down a little bit over the next couple of months as I figure out my new job and find my pace.  But if you will stay with me, I promise to keep on working hard for you & me!

  1. Dear Linda,
thanks so much for this very honest review. This makes you a real blogger which I like reading who shares true stories, not fake photos of you enjoying a cocktail at the launch party which had 100 lipsticks around but ones you are wearing them and telling that it might be drying for some. Very much appreciated.
Doesn’t matter how things slow down, I will be your reader. Take your time to find your pace. I am sure you will make it work.

Thank you so much for your kindness, Sara. I don’t particularly care about blog posts about parties, etc… so I myself can’t really bring myself to write about that. I really miss blogging daily…. and gosh the comments are just so hard for me to keep up with at this point…. but I love to read what you have to say, so pls pls come back and leave me a note when you can! :**

Be Dior is my favourite here. Pity they don’t quite live up to standard. Good luck with your new job! Being a working (out of home – we are all hardworking whether employed or not) mumma can be tough! Don’t kill yourself trying to do everything, some things you will just need to learn to overlook…. Like the laundry for me, urgh. So. Much. Washing. xx

I love Be Dior on you. It’s a pity they dry your lips out though. I’m hoping it’s just the glitter. I do prefer those without glitter as well, but purely because I never liked glittery lipsticks 🙂

  4. Be Dior looks so gloriously juicy pink on you. On me it’s just a sheer mess of the kind that makes me reluctant to even try lipsticks like these. That said, I did get Smile, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it was a lovely casual nude pink, managing to tone down even my lips.

533 Smile looks like a gorgeous color! I don’t own any Dior Addict lipsticks but these look super hydrating!
