I used to adore Clarins skincare as a young adult, and it was very natural to extend into their makeup range once I started working. It was a surprise when Clarins decided to discontinue the makeup range a couple of years ago, and I have been waiting eagerly for today… because Clarins makeup is finally back in Singapore again!
Since it has been some years, it feels completely fresh to be playing with Clarins makeup again. I have a selection of products across their permanent range and would like to share some thoughts with you today.
As fans of the brand know very well, Clarins is all about natural ingredients, and embracing individual woman’s beauty. Not only are the makeup products formulated with skin-loving ingredients, the colours and finishes are also designed to flatter all ages and skin types. For the eyes, the Palette 4 Couleurs (SGD65) contains 4 complementary shades in a mix of satin, matte and shimmery finishes. There are currently 3 palettes to choose from, and the one I have here is 02 Rosewood which is an interesting mix of warm and neutral tones. I am particularly intrigued by the combination of pink-browns with taupe-purple, allowing for a variety of looks.
The textures are reasonably soft to the touch and applies smoothly. I was surprised to find that it is quite pigmented and easy to blend. On my oily hooded lids, the eyeshadow shades had decent longevity, although I did notice some creasing and fading at about the 8 hour mark. This is not unusual for my lids though, and easily resolved with a good primer!
Combining their makeup artistry with skincare expertise, Clarins Supra Volume Mascara (SGD42) not only beautifies the lashes but also cares for them. Included in the formula is a combination of Cassia Flower Wax and Panthenol to protect and smoothen the lash cuticles, allowing them to grow longer and fuller with time. I love that it is an intense black shade that makes my whimpy lashes noticeable with just a single coat, and there are also tiny fibres in there to immediately volumnize.
A girl can never have enough blushes, and Clarins Blush Prodige (SGD55) is a lovely one to behold. Cleverly built into the blush are 2 types of finishes – matte and iridescent. On rushed mornings, I simply swirl my brush over the entire palette and sweep along my cheek bones for a luminous natural flush. When I have more time though, I can cleverly sculpt using the matte parts of the blush, followed by the iridescent shade onto the apples of my cheeks or along the top of my cheek bones for a more defined look. There are 4 shades available, and the one I have here is 03 Miami Pink. As you have already seen from the swatches earlier, Miami Pink contains a medium neutral-toned pink in a matte finish and a slightly lighter and cooler-toned pink in an iridescent finish.
Clarins Joli Rouge (SGD40) is massively popular, and I only recently remembered why. It applies smoothly on the lips without tugging, and is beautifully pigmented. Even with constant sipping of coffee and water all morning, the lip color remains largely intact. It does not feather nor budge outside of the lip boundaries, and fades evenly without leaving a dreaded ring. There are 12 shades available here, and the one I have is 742 Joli Rouge which is their signature Clarins red, and as it turns out, my dream neutral-toned red.
Putting all the pieces into context, here is a full makeup look featuring Clarins Palette 4 Couleurs 02 Rosewood on my eyes, complete with the Supra Volume Mascara. I am also wearing Clarins Blush Prodige in 03 Miami Pink swirled together and applied along the cheeks. Finished with Clarins Joli Rouge in shade 742 Joli Rouge on my lips.
Clarins makeup is now available at all counters in Singapore, as well as online at clarins.com.sg (unaffiliated). Happy shopping!
